Texas Tech on Monday unveiled its parking and logistics plans around Jones AT&T Stadium for the Sept. 12 game vs. TCU. Special considerations had to be made because the game is scheduled for a school day, which affects parking for classes and for the game parking. The Snyder golf team went to state and accomplished just about all it set out to do, short of beating Andrews. Then again, no one beats Andrews lately. The Lady Mustangs won their 11th state championship on Friday in Austin, including their third in a row and fifth in seven years. “We knew the deck was stacked against us,” Snyder coach Ricky Hunter said Saturday. “We’re extremely happy to finish second with the same team that we finished fifth with last year. You compare our scores this year to last year, we’ve come a long way.”

No. 5 LCU beat No. 1 Oklahoma City 6-5 Saturday in the championship game of the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament, getting a tiebreaking single from shortstop Christian Vazquez in the 10th inning.

WACO — Two days before the Big 12 outdoor track and field championships started, Bryce Lamb said he wanted to go out with a bang because his performances at conference meets tended to run hot and cold. The Texas Tech senior debuted three years ago by winning Big 12 indoor titles in the long jump and the triple jump, but nothing since in Big 12 meets has particularly pleased him. On Saturday, he was back in top form.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Megan Sullivan drove in three runs and Katera Eltsosie provided four-hit pitching as No. 2 Lubbock Christian University beat No. 5 Oklahoma City 4-1 Friday night to advance to the championship game of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament. Sullivan hit an RBI double in the first inning and a two-run homer in the fifth to boost LCU (55-7). The game was the winners’ bracket final, matching the last two unbeatens in the tournament. The championship game is at 5:30 p.m. today.

Mustangs were second by one shot last year

AUSTIN — The Andrews boys know what it feels like to lose a state championship by one stroke. This time, they were on the other side. A year after coming up one shot short, Andrews won the Class 3A state title Friday with no room to spare. The Mustangs finished at 631 and Argyle at 632 after the two teams shot 315 and 313, respectively, in the final round at Jimmy Clay Golf Course.

AUSTIN — The University Interscholastic League increased the number of teams in the state golf tournaments this year from two per region in each classification to three per region. That just opened the door for more dominance from Region I, at least in the Class 3A girls tournament. Andrews, Snyder and Gatesville stood 1-2-3 with plenty of room to spare after the first round Thursday at Jimmy Clay Golf Course. That’s the same order in which they finished two weeks ago in the Region I-3A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock.

FORT WORTH — Madison Davis hit a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning and James Hardberger took a no-hitter into the seventh, helping Lubbock Christian High beat Colleyville Covenant Christian 4-3 Tuesday and sweep their TAPPS Class 3A bi-district series in two games. The Eagles (19-10) won Game 1 of the series 11-0 on Monday behind two-hit, 11-strikeout pitching from Ricky Contreras. In Game 2, played at LaGrave Field, Davis put LCHS ahead 2-1 in the sixth inning. In the top of the seventh, Brooks Stephenson hit a sacrifice fly and the Eagles padded the lead to 4-1.

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Jack Mabe allowed one run in 82/3 innings and Jason Fisch doubled home the go-ahead run in the sixth as No. 5 Lubbock Christian University got past St. Gregory’s 3-1 Tuesday in a Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament opener. It was the first of three pool-play games for LCU (40-14) at Bison Field at Ford Park on the Oklahoma Baptist campus. LCU faces Wayland Baptist (19-35) at 2 p.m. today.

Lubbock Christian University got on a roll near the end of the regular season. Now the Chaparrals will try to carry it over to the postseason. Fifth-ranked LCU (39-14) opens the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament today against St. Gregory’s (18-33), a team against whom it won three of four during the regular season. The game is at 11 a.m. today in Shawnee, Okla. Tournament officials on Tuesday moved up the start time of today’s games because of unfavorable weather conditions forecast for the evening.
