Vanderburg in contention for third straight top-10 in Austin
AUSTIN — Jack Vanderburg had what his coach described as a boring round of golf — boring, that is, except for him being at the state tournament with a shot at another top-10 finish.
Vanderburg carded a 3-over-par 73 Monday in the first round of the UIL Class 4A state tournament at Onion Creek Golf Club, leaving the Frenship senior four shots out of the lead and one out of the top 10.
“I didn’t play bad today,” said Vanderburg, a Texas Tech signee. “I’m still in it. If I could just get some of those putts to fall tomorrow, I’ve still got a pretty good shot at it.”
