Competition pushed the sophomore to up her game
Savannah Cognasi got blindsided with some new competition late in track and field season. Maybe it pushed the Coronado sophomore to up her game.
Cognasi finished second in the high jump Thursday at the District 2-5A meet, just behind promising novice Akor Maywin from Odessa Permian.
Cognasi cleared 5 feet, 5 inches, whereas last year she tied for second going 5-0.
“I came back after my freshman year and just wanted to get better,” she said. “I felt like I got a lot better, and I was really pleased with my progress and how much better I’ve gotten.”
