Fashion and charity joined forces Wednesday during a noontime Daniel Cremieux fashion show at the South Plains Mall Dillard’s Men’s Store. More than 100 participants gathered to see models sporting popped collars and pops of color — all to help promote the Daniel Cremieux label and raise money for the South Plains Kidney Foundation. The foundation’s president, Brian Carr, thanked the audience, noting their presence at the event helped support the transplant and dialysis patients served by the organization.

Stephane Cremieux, president of the self-described “luxury French preppy” label, will also appear at Wednesday’s noontime show, in the Dillard’s Men’s Store at South Plains Mall. Originally founded in the 1970s, the South Plains Kidney Foundation became an affiliate of the National Kidney Foundation in the early 1990s, said South Plains Kidney Foundation President Brian Carr.

Four people ordained into the United Methodist Church Saturday morning during the United Methodist Church’s Northwest Texas Conference annual meeting represented a returning trend in the denomination, said the Rev. Richard Edwards, Lubbock district superintendent. Two, Rev. Martin Kyle Brock and Rev. Ryan S. Strebeck, went directly from college to seminary — the path most ordained clergy took before 1970. In recent decades, the trend moved toward candidates seeking ordination after a sometimes decadeslong hiatus between college and seminary, Edwards said.

The conference serves about 200 churches in the northern panhandle of Texas and is meeting at First United Methodist Church in Lubbock through Saturday. Since September 2000, Whitfield has served as bishop of the Northwest Texas and New Mexico conferences of the United Methodist Church.

Whitfield, who serves as bishop of the Northwest Texas and New Mexico United Methodist Church conferences, spoke during the Northwest Texas annual conference, in Lubbock’s First United Methodist Church until Saturday. About 550 people registered for the conference, which serves about 200 United Methodist churches in Lubbock, Amarillo, Abilene and other northern Panhandle towns.

Nebraska police arrest woman claiming to be Lubbock sheriff 06/01/12 - 12:46am

Police in Sidney, Neb., arrested a woman claiming to be sheriff of Lubbock after she reportedly assaulted an officer and trespassed. Tammie Stansbury, 41, was charged with assault of a police officer, resisting an officer, trespassing and disturbing the peace, said Sgt.Tim Herrera, of Nebraska’s Cheyenne County Jail. Police say Stansbury kicked and spit at officers when they attempted to arrest her May 27, and later claimed to be Lubbock County’s sheriff. Officials are still looking into why the Nebraska resident made the unusual claim.
