Aarun won the contest in the Young Adult Division. These are the top fiddle players in the country, said Denice. "It's a very competitive contest," said Denice, who has participated both as a contestant and a judge in previous years. Aarun and her family have attended the contest for 18 years. But the former South Plains College student has had previous experiences in winning contests.

At the Lubbock Lake Landmark this week, children have learned about how indigenous people in North America shared their stories.

Native Americans have passed down their stories for many generations. They have also passed along their culture, buried in those stories. At the Lubbock Lake Landmark this week, children have learned about how indigenous people in North America shared their stories and the importance of those tales. "Isn't it cool that your family stories can be passed down for generations?" asked Ardith Lawson of the children at the camp. Lawson and Erica Restum intern at the landmark. They have built lesson plans for each of the camps the museum will hold this summer.

"I started off as her daddy," said Demry, who has trained a 29-year-old African elephant named Wrinkles for a quarter century . "It somehow turned around, and I'm just her baby now." Thirty children from ages 8 to 12 registered for the Music, Art and Drama Camp and began their journey into the arts Monday. For the eighth year, West Texas residents will experience the events of the Buffalo Soldier Expedition of 1877. Cochran County and the Texas Last Frontier Museum in Morton are organizing the celebration with a series of different events, ranging from a baseball game based on the late 1800s game rules to a Geocaching treasure hunt game. The celebration honors the memories of those Buffalo Soldiers in 1877 who pursued a group of Comanches after the native Americans took stock from a group of buffalo hunters in the Llano Estacado area.
