The South Plains Astronomy Club is hosting a viewing of the transit, which won't happen again until the year 2117.
Weather permitting, Lubbock skywatchers will gather outside the Texas Tech Museum, Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue, for what amounts to a once-in-lifetime event — the transit of the planet Venus across the sun.
The South Plains Astronomy Club is hosting a viewing of the transit, which won’t happen again until the year 2117.
The event starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday and ends at sunset.
If the sky is cloudy, Smith said, the club will use an Internet connection to stream video of the event as it’s observed elsewhere in the country.
