A 14-year-old boy was taken to the hospital this afternoon after falling into the basement of a house under construction.
The boy was at the site at 112th Street and Kirby Avenue when he accidentally fell about 12 feet into the basement, said Chris Angerer, deputy chief of operations.
There was some wood covering the basement, and the teen was apparently walking on it.
The Lubbock Fire Department’s heavy rescue team responded to the site at about 12:30 p.m. They placed the teen on a back board and lifted him up using their haul system on the ladder truck.
The boy, who was alert and conscious after the fall, was taken to the hospital out of precaution, Angerer said. The teen was on site with a relative, who was there working on the plumbing.
