A man who had worked for the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office died and a woman was critically injured in a Saturday morning collision on Interstate 27.
The two-vehicle accident occurred at about 7:55 a.m. in the 5300 block of the interstate.
Tommy Dale Lamkin, 36, was traveling south on I-27 in a 1996 Chevy Silverado when a northbound 1986 Jeep Comanche veered into his path, according to a police report.
The Jeep swerved to the left, crossed over the median and hit the Chevy.
Lamkin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, 40-year-old Kellie Anne Lewis of Lubbock, was transported to University Medical Center.
Lamkin had been wearing a seat belt, but Lewis was not.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.

He never said anything about Lubbock being wet. Do you not have better things to do than infer what you want? And, you have certainly showed your hand in the lawsuit comment. I have had the feeling that you are one of those morons (have your attorneys check on that - I believe there is ample medical evidence) who run around looking for a quick buck through litigation. How about posting something constructive instead of trying to argue with everyone? I am not defending gorangers, but I do believe in freedom of speech. As for the information being private medical information, it is not. It is merely what he overheard. No worries gorangers, you have broken no law. You have only crossed the great swcowan3, warrior of the web.
HIPAA act
No private medical information is supposed to be "overheard" by outside those involved in the treatment of the patient. As feduptohere mentioned, gorangers "overheard" others speaking it is not his appointed duty to spread information or disinformation concerning anything he was not involved in. Would you appreciate people passing around information they overheard concerning your medical treatment?
Focus, People!
I happened to be out at the detention center today where officers and staff are pulling together to provide a network of support and strength for the Lamkins, putting aside their own feelings of loss and grief, not to mention the anger that accompanies the knowledge that what is done, is done. Can we not - as a COMMUNITY - sacrifice a few hours of self-centered pickering? I wonder what would happen if we all just hit our knees in intercession for all those in pain tonight?
That is my plan for this evening, and I'm praying, too, that others will join me.
Lamkin wreck
Give me a break! This poor family needs your thoughts and prayers and not people bickering. I know because my family went through the same thing when my son Cpl. D. Robert-Martin Harvey was killed last April and yes he was killed by a drunk driver and I will say that until the day I die. Life will never be the same for this detention officer's wife, children, parents and siblings. Let us say a prayer and be assured the Lubbock County Sheriff Department will be there for them forever! We are a testimony for this department and how they will always be there for their officers. By the way more people will die until the laws for drinking and driving are changed and the punishment is alot more severe than it is now. Lamkin family, the Harvey family in New Mexico is praying for you and know exactly what you are going through (your own personal hell right here on earth). May God keep you in the palm of his hand!
Lubbock County detention officer killed in Saturday wreck
READ the subject...this is the important part of this story
Honestly the family will read this. Why don't all of you who are arguing about all the different topics meet in person somewhere to have your dispute. THE main issue is a detention officer died...he leaves a family and many friends...as well as he took care of you also. LEAVE THE COMMENTS POSITIVE AND HONOR HIM.
OK, mea culpa
I admit, I am angry at gorangers. He/she should NEVER report medical information on anyone, regardless of how he heard it. But I have my doubts as to overhearing such in the new UMC ER. As for the possible consequences... you have just poisoned the jury pool by your comments. Think of that when you wish for the family to collect millions from the driver who killed him! And my heart goes out to the family. When I first saw the posting, I feared I had lost a close friend who works out there, and my heart was in my throat until I read the whole story.
