Dewhurst loans himself $6 million for Senate campaign

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst recently invested an extra $6 million of his own money in his bid for the U.S. Senate, his campaign revealed late Friday.

The loan from his personal fortune was in addition to more than $500,000 in individual donations the campaign received between April 1 and May 9, according to the campaign. Dewhurst has raised more than $6 million in individual contributions since launching his Senate bid last year.

Dewhurst had previously loaned his campaign $2 million. The investments from his own personal funds have helped Dewhurst keep television ads in heavy rotation across the state.

Campaign finance reports were due this week to the Federal Election Commission. Reports from U.S. Senate candidates often take several days to post online.

NOT! How does a politician get so wealthy while serving in office??? Bribes and kick-backs I'd guess, 'cuz the pay, while good, isn't enough to generate these huge sums. Randy No-good-nauer went to DC in good shape, money-wise, and now he's worth many millions, even while living in one of the costliest urban areas in the world. Someone please explain THAT to me.

Name me a senator or congressman, of EITHER party, who hasn't managed similar results. NONE of them move back to their old houses after leaving office. Election to congress means you spend your retirement on Silk Stocking Row, whether you had a D or an R by your name.

So let's not flare up in righteous indignation about the evil republicans here, okay? I guarantee YOUR party isn't skipping any meals!

Now why do you suppose someone would spend 6 million dollars to buy a senate seat.

The incumbents know that position power is worth something.

We need to get rid of incumbents, if you want real change. Vote these long term experts out of office. If they are experts, why do we keep going down the wrong road. Dewhurst is a clown, Neugerbauer is a clown and Duncan is a clown... time for the circus to close shop.

No?

It's because nobody wants them. So nobody contributes any money to them, and nobody votes for them.

You've been complaining about Congressman Neugebauer for so long that you don't even notice how well he's actually liked in this area. Outside of the few noisy liberals who do most of the commenting on this site I mean, and they aren't going to affect any election enough to notice.
