HOUSTON (AP) — One person has died and another was injured in an explosion at a Channelview plant.
The Houston Chronicle reports that an employee of an independent contractor was killed in the blast about 8:10 a.m. Saturday. Oiltanking Partners L.P. said in a prepared statement another contract worker was injured and was being treated at an area hospital (http://bit.ly/K5abZ5).
The company said it has confirmed that "there was no fire, environmental or health threat that occurred."
KTRK-TV said the blast reportedly was caused by a welding machine malfunction.
According to its Web site, Oiltanking Partners is publicly traded partnership engaged in independent storage and transportation of crude oil, refined petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas.
