Texas Tech basketball coach Billy Gillispie was discharged from University Medical Center on Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokesman said, where he spent six days being treated for high blood pressure.
Gillispie had been hospitalized since early Friday morning after experiencing severe pain and what he said felt like a stroke or heart attack.
As Gillispie sat in the hospital this week, reports surfaced of his alleged mistreatment of players and violations of NCAA practice limits.
Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said Wednesday the school self-reported secondary violations in January. At that time, Gillispie was issued a reprimand and told there would be "zero tolerance of for further disregard of the rules."
Hocutt said he would be "very disappointed" and will "handle it accordingly" if recent allegations of mistreatment and further rules violations are proven true.
Asked if Gillispie could be terminated, Hocutt said, “We’ve got some serious issues on the table that we’re working through. What the end result is, I don’t want to speculate. I can’t get ahead of myself here. We’ve got to take it day by day, step by step. We will get to the right place.”
Gillispie and Hocutt did not respond to a text messages seeking comment Thursday.

Good luck coach Gillispie !
Basketball Violations
How is it that Kirby Hocutt, athletic director, and the rest of the athletic administration appears to be clueless of the myriad of practice violations and the disregard for the players' health that is now being reported for the 2011/2012 season?
How many basketball teams are required to partake in full blown intersquad scrimmages for two (2) hours before playing each game?
Starting Over (Again)
As sung to the melody of "Together, Again." (A few of you ain't never heard of such.)
It appears my boy Billy Clyde is going to be fired with cause. I suspect I will support the firing. But let me say that if he is rightfully fired, I want him to receive departing compensation that he might not even deserve in keeping with the conduct of 99.99% of all other D1 programs.
I just wish it was Curry-Curry.
Saturday's game is the biggest in Tuberville's visit to Lubbock. I think he will win, but to lose would be an absolute catastrophe. If he wins and wins at Ames we will have a bowl season.
I still think
Or at least hope that with Bell, Moore, and Williams ready for the trip, that Coach Brown turns the offense loose and we see what an unbridled Tech offense looks like. To this point, as fans, all we have gotten since the coaching change are wait until this talent hits the field, we're injured (which is actually correct, but not so much vs Iowa St), you know, wait til next year stuff. Now its next year. I think these next three games will, in effect, show us the value of the coaching staff. If we go off to TSU and lose, regardless, it doesnt bode well at all for the rest of the season. Tech 41 TSU 27.
Let's wait and see....
Let's see how fast Holcutt acts on this matter..... I suspect this will go days without action..... Ok Holcutt, are you going to support your student/players and dismiss Gillispie or not?
Support
How about supporting the people you hire Hocutt? This looks like a typical Hance finger in the pie situation. Hocutt will wait until he gets his instructions from Hance.
Give 'Em All A Trophy
Be sure and give all the Tech basketball players a trophy and tell them, each of them, that they are so very special...
Rules
I don't think it is about the treatment of the players. I don't think it is about Hance. It is about breaking rules. He apparently was breaking NCAA rules in January. Was warned and now he may be doing it again. If this is true, his boss may not have any choice but to fire him.
Compliance
This absolutely does not have anything to do with "kissing of Hance's ring." If you don't want to believe he mistreated players or hired coaches on false pretence that's fine. But it has already been proven that he did not comply with NCAA compliance rules. This is all on him. All the other teams have to abide by theses rules. BCG is not a changed man. He is a self absorbed individual. He has continued with this same behavior from school to school.
Agreed
This is what I find disturbing. In the span of two and a half years, right or wrong, Texas Tech has fired a winning head football coach, the head baseball coach, and, lets face it, the head basketball coach. Is this coincidence, a string of just incredibly bad luck, or perhaps a fundamental fault in the management of the university? Does this type of thing happen in such a short period of time elsewhere? Where? The alumni, fans, students, and local business owners whose income relies, in part, on Texas Tech sports need to look at this with a skeptical eye. Seriously. If you think this is common, then youre part of the problem. If , god forbid, the football team goes 5-7 again, there might be another coach you can add to the list. If this is normal, then lets keep it going. Is it? Team Hance, take your best shot. Not with insults or "Leacher" labeling, but for once, try rationale.
