PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Washington State President Elson Floyd has called for a review of claims of abusive behavior by coach Mike Leach and his staff toward players by wide receiver Marquess Wilson.
The decision by Floyd comes one day after Wilson quit the team. Wilson says he left the program because of the actions of Leach and his staff. Wilson says the new staff has "preferred to belittle, intimidate and humiliate us," and that included physical abuse.
Floyd said in a statement Sunday morning that after consultation with Athletic Director Bill Moos, he asked the athletic department to report findings and conclusions as soon as possible. Floyd says reviews from both the Pac-12 and the athletic department "should get to the bottom of the matter."
Leach is in his first season as Washington State coach after spending two years out of coaching. He spent 10 seasons as Texas Tech coach before being fired in 2009 after claims of mistreatment from a player.
After Washington State's 44-36 loss to UCLA on Saturday night, Leach declined to address Wilson's claims.
"I'm not going to talk about anyone that isn't here," he said
In a statement issued Saturday night, Moos said it was unfortunate that Wilson decided to quit.
"I believe I join many Cougars in wishing Marquess well in his future endeavors," Moos said. "We have procedures in place that were developed to monitor student-athlete welfare in all of our sports programs. We will continue to follow those procedures and modify them if needed."
Wilson, a junior, set school single-season records last year with 82 receptions and 1,388 yards receiving. This season, he leads the team with 52 receptions for 813 yards.

As Yogi Berra said, "Déjà vu all over again!"
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise
Didn't see that one coming. Who gets fired first. Tubs for knocking head set off GA or Leach for abusing players?
My money's
My money is on Leach, nashy. Tuber is like a fetus, safe in the four eyed nuclear reverend's womb. Even if he would have knocked the headset off with a 30" aluminum t-ball bat and rammed it into the GA's intestines, there would be no repercussions, so dont fret. I didnt see it until after the game. You see, I actually go to the games and my seats are on the home side. But after I got home, I saw the tape. Immediately, I began to formulate what I would say if I worked along with the spin gurus at TTU or the chancellors fm sports radio station. "Coach was showing the GA an advanced karate move in case he was ever attacked by a man wearing a headset". "Coach spotted a rare african bone crushing duck spider on the GA's right chin and slapped the hell out of it to save the GA's life". "Coach was re-enacting a funny scene from The Three Stooges". I didnt think of the "coach was trying to get the GA off the field" bit.
Leach
Lubbock you need to stick to current events What happens and doesn't happen to Leach isn't Lubbock's concern any longer. Tubbs on the other hand needs to be fired. His actions at the game and on national tv is pretty disappointing.
interesting that this "star player" decided that Leach
and other coaches were abusive only after he had been suspended for violation of team rules.
Again
Maybe Leach is dealing with another prima donna just like Craig James' son here; the spoiled kid just wants some publicity because his feelings were hurt. He will make a good pro candidate.
Poor baby....
I think when a coach is terminated for any issue that involves alleged student abuse or something along those lines, they will be targets by opportunistic kids wherever they coach. And here's the kicker, in this situation, this sub par excuse of a news outlet will highlight it to further add to the spin and so the university can continue to convince themselves they were in the right for the Mike Leach debacle.
Dts5.1
Ditto. You nailed it.
Leach is trouble
Seems wherever he goes he has problems and it's always someone else's fault.
Tech desperately needs to win
Tech desperately needs to win their last two games for the players and programs sake. Because of this and with there only being two games left in the season I think some kind of fine against Tuberville is what we'll see. I believe Tech will struggle against Oklahoma State and will have to out score Baylor to win. The person with the monkey on his back is the AD and what he decides to do in the off season about the Tech Football Program.
You mean...
...the Tech program that is 7-3 and ranked #22?
Besides, this is about Mike Leach abusing more players.
Leach is "history" and should
Leach is "history" and should remain there. Everyone needs to concern themselves with the "present".
got to love it
Silent Wings, 0 comments; Obamacare; 0 comments, Tuberville [filtered word] slaps loser student coach, 167 comments; Leach gets angry again and does something kinda stupid, 12 comments. I like football, but the coaches are all overpaid bullies who abuse everybody. C'mon comment on something meaningful like the "Minorities" article.
@Bornier
If Obama ever says anything negative about Mike Leach then there will be comments on everything trashing him, his children, his family, etc. Team Leach is the only group who posts much in the comment sections, and their only agenda is to attack anyone who thinks Leach is a jerk or doesn't think he's a faultless victim persecuted by gotcha journalism and mean spirited players that don't like him.
Seems their mission since Day 1 after the PR Company formed them is to hit all of the comment sections of all the newspapers acting like they represent all Red Raiders even though hardly any of them even graduated from Tech. PR 101.
Someone just needs to tell Leach that when his same problems start following him around to different schools then maybe he needs to look in the mirror to find the problem.
They took a chance
Washington State is the only team to take a chance on Leach, and when they hired him I wondered how long it would take WSU officials to get a quizzed look on their face after he arrived on campus. Like him or not, most people agree Leach is a different animal.....that's why one of his nicknames was "TSO" (the strange one). It's going to be interesting to see how he works with WSU officials during this investigation and into the future. We'll see how long the honeymoon lasts. I'm thinking WSU officials will do everything they can to make this go away because they don't want a strained relationship with Leach and egg on their face so early in the marriage.
