Lee Hays once made visits to Texas Tech football practices to take notes on what Mike Leach’s team was doing while Hays was a West Texas A&M assistant.
Now it appears he’ll be part of the Tech program. Tech has hired Hays to coach offensive line, according to a Houston television station.
KRIV-TV sports director Mark Berman reported Friday that Houston coach Tony Levine confirmed that Hays, the Cougars’ offensive line coach this season, had accepted the job with the Red Raiders.
Hays, 45, was offensive coordinator at West Texas A&M (2003-05), Baylor (2006-07) and Tarleton State (2011), running spread passing offenses.
He also has been an assistant at Texas A&M-Kingsville (1997-98 and 2000-02), West Texas A&M (1999) and Houston (2010).
He is a Del Rio native.
