Q&A Tech DE Branden Jackson

When you are not on the football field where are you?

“Probably the basketball court. I am a basketball player turned football player.”

Are you going to suit up for coach Tubby Smith?

“Oh, no. But, if coach Tubbs ever needed me to step in and bring some physicality to the team and coach Kilff didn’t mind, I would do it. I love the game of basketball and I think it brings an added element to my football game.”

Most basketball players turned football players become tight ends. What are you doing on defense?

“I wouldn’t be opposed to that, getting some Jace Amaro action going on if coach Kingsbury ever needed me. I threw that hint out there since he let Kenny (Williams) play both ways. Every day I get out there early and run a route to see if he is looking.”

Has he ever taken notice?

“No, he has never said much. He saw me catch a couple and said, ‘It looks like you could play some offense.’ But, when I say OK, he always downplays it and tells me I can’t catch.”

Who is the sharpest dresser on the team outside of coach Kingsbury?

“It would have to be Tyler Middleton and Austin Stewart. Those guys are always color coordinated and have some exotic things you wouldn’t expect people to wear. ... Austin Stewart likes to wear skinny jeans that we all say are too small for him and he will have his hair dyed all these funky characters. He is pretty interesting outside of football.”

Do you wear skinny jeans?

“I got too much weight to be in skinny jeans.”

Outside of sports what are you best at?

“Probably cooking. I am the best cook on the team.”

What is the best thing you cook?

“I make a smothered artichoke chicken wrapped in bacon and stuffed with spinach. It is pretty good.”

What got you into cooking?

“My mom was a single parent and she needed some help at home and I started making a lot of freaky meals so me and my little sister could eat and it just so happened as I got older I got good and paid attention to what my mom did. Now, it is something I enjoy doing.”
