Tech’s Watson earns
CoSIDA Academic All-America honor
Texas Tech soccer senior goalkeeper Lauren Watson has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Second Team.
It is the third academic honor for Watson as she was recognized earlier in the year with the Academic All-District nod from CoSIDA and her third-straight Academic All-Big 12 accolade.
Watson is one of 13 student-athletes sporting a 4.00 GPA on this year’s squads, including five on the second team.
All three keepers across the three teams had perfect grade point averages.
In order to be nominated for the All-America honor, she had to be selected to one of the All-District teams, which are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
To receive that distinction, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA at her current institution, must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position and is only eligible until she has completed one full calendar year at her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
This season, Watson recorded 86 saves behind a goals against average mark of 1.06, which ranks seventh in a single season at Texas Tech.
