First West Texas Folk Festival at Uncle Bill’s Music Barn The first West Texas Folk Festival will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Uncle Bill’s Music Barn, 15002 Louisville. It will spotlight local artists with a cross section of musical styles. Hosts are: Friday, Chris Smith; and Saturday, Cary Banks. Tickets are $15 for the general public and $5 for students.

Greenfest confirmed Friday at Bash Riprocks #2 The fourth-annual Greenfest, celebrating the life of the late Daniel Green and raising funds for a South Plains College music scholarship, takes place from 6:45 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday at Bash Riprocks #2, 620 19th St. Entertainers are: 6:45 p.m., Phlip and Mr. Mason; 7:30 p.m., the 2012 Daniel Green Memorial Music Scholarship recipient; 8:30 p.m., Zach Newberry Band; 9:30 p.m., Kent Mings (and live auction); 10:30 p.m., Plan B-Lubbock (and live auction); 11:30 p.m., Static Union; and 12:30 a.m., The Ducks.

“LOL: An Evening of Dance and Laughter” — 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Flatlands Dance Theatre combining dance and humor in program at the Firehouse Theatre at LHUCA, 511 Ave. K. Pieces range from 3 minutes to 17 minutes. Pieces choreographed by Valerie Komkov Hill, Nicole Wesley, Kyla Olson, Ali Duffy, Sarah Mondle, Rachel Ure and Genevieve Durham DeCesaro. General admission tickets $20 for general public and $12 for seniors and students with valid IDs.

Flatlands Dance Theatre provides entire evening of comic dances

Comic dance is no stranger to Flatlands Dance Theatre artistic director Ali Duffy and executive director Kyla Olson. Each has experienced this art form many times. However, Olson added, “But I am not aware of any other companies that do a full-length concert of comic dances.” That is precisely what Flatlands Dance Theatre will provide Friday and Saturday in an 8 p.m. production consisting of eight dances, all designed to tickle one’s funnybone.

When country music singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell went in to record his latest album, “Kin,” he didn’t go it alone. The album, which was released in June, is a patchwork of performances by not only Crowell but also other artists such as Norah Jones, Vince Gill, Lucinda Williams, Lee Ann Womack, Rosanne Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Emmylou Harris. The album was produced by Joe Henry, who also produced Crowell’s 13th studio album, “Sex and Gasoline.”

Davis, White shine in musical at Icehouse

Having experienced many productions of Lerner & Loewe’s classic “My Fair Lady,” and only a few great ones, one can conclude that budget, set design, costumes and a wonderful orchestra never have been triggering factors. Rather, it is the chemistry shared by the characters Eliza Dolittle and Henry Higgins that draws theater patrons into this wonderful story and, more, makes them care. Every performance is a vital building block. But this is a play in which the stars must align.

Preston E. Smith Award, $750 — “Future Learning,” 13 minutes, directed by Eli Akira Kaufman, California. Special Jury Award, $500 — “Delivery,” 11 minutes, directed by Fabien-Mariano Ortiz, France. American Experience Award, $500 — “Pablo on Wheels,” 19 minutes, directed by Brett Sorem, California.
