Texas Tech junior running back Eric Stephens is out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee dislocation in Saturday's game against Texas A&M, Tech announced Tuesday.
Stephens was on pace to become Tech's first 1,000-yard rusher since Ricky Williams did it in 1998. Stephens had racked up 570 yards on 109 carries through five games. He'd also scored eight touchdowns.
He has not scheduled surgery, according to the Tech release, and is expected to return for his senior season.

Our prayers go out to this admirable young man., and his family. Hope that the surgery goes well. God be with you ,Eric Stephens.
I think you mean Ricky
I think you mean Ricky Williams-- not Kenny Williams.... that said, best wishes and prayers for Eric Stephens.......
Come back next year
Make yourself whole, and come back next year, Eric.
(By the way, I do not recall. Did that play even draw a flag? May have been borderline, but looked like an intentional late hit to me. I'm sure no one intended to injure Stephens so severely.)
We care
As you can see Eric, we all care about you. We know you worked real hard and don't deserve this. Hang in there and come back strong! Like Floatlander, we're praying for you!
no penalty
There was no penalty, Mr. Kerns, should have been, maybe because 94 also went down.As I recall we were flagged earlier for a hit out of bounds where the Tech player could not slow down, in Erics case, and Ive watched the replay its on Double T Nation, by the way, the live feed at the time by Espn, its under you be the judge on Double T, the play was over, mind you over, Eric had alredy dropped the pass and other players had stopped but not 94.,you be the judge. He should have been kicked out of the game and there should have been 15 yards penalty.Im sure he feels bad about it, 94, so would I but it dont make up for what transpired in my opinion, Eric as you recall was getting yardage, good yardage against the Aggies, figure it out, they did not like it, the AGS,or should I say, Stinkbait U, as far as Im concerned. Whats done is done, al we can do is hope and pray for Eric and dedicate the rest of the season to this young man.

no penalty
First off, I want to express my sadness for the serious knee injury to Mr. Stephens.
There was no penalty flag and it's questionable if a flag was necessary for a "bang-bang" incident. It appeared to me that number 94 for the Aggies, Damontre Moore, may not have been in position to see that Stephens had actually dropped the ball. He was going after the receiver who was still standing.
Further, it might be of interest to some of you that in the 2010 game in College Station, Texas A&M running back Christine Michael suffered a broken leg and was lost for the season.
Also, for the record, I am aware that Demontre Moore called Mr. Stephens and expressed his regrets for the serious injury.
