Kingsbury to make $75,000 in contract bonuses

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury is due $75,000 in bonuses, according to terms of the contract he signed in February — $25,000 for getting the Red Raiders to a non-BCS bowl and another $50,000 based on attendance.

Kingsbury’s agreement with Tech spells out that if average home attendance is 95 percent or better of Jones AT&T Stadium’s listed capacity, he earns the bonus. Tech reported an average home attendance this season of 57,933, which is almost 96 percent of the listed capacity of 60,454.

Kingsbury could earn another $25,000 for a victory in Tech’s Holiday Bowl game against Arizona State and between $20,000 and $30,000 if the team grade-point average among scholarship players is 2.65 or better for the semester.

Kingsbury stands to earn $1.85 million in base pay and guaranteed outside income in his first year.

The bonuses are payable no later than March 1.

Tech finished the regular season 7-5. Had the Red Raiders won a little more, a bonus schedule would have kicked in that paid Kingsbury $75,000 for eight regular-season wins and higher amounts for each victory above that.
