Texas Tech offensive line coach Lee Hays said Wednesday he’s had a conversation with Le’Raven Clark about possibly moving from left tackle to right tackle or back to guard, the position Clark played as a freshman.
Hays said Dominique Robertson, a 6-foot-5, 300-pound signee fromRiverside(Calif.)CityCollege, has played left tackle virtually his entire football life and was promised the chance to compete for the spot when he arrives at Tech. Robertson’s comfortable on the left side, and Hays has high hopes for him.
“It’d be great to have a dominant guy at guard,” Hays said, referring toClark, “and another guy who can handle the edge.”
Hays saidClarkis fine with whatever might help the team. Playing right guard in 2012,Clarkwas named a freshman all-American. Playing left tackle in 2013, he was first-team All-Big 12.
Hays cautioned that such a plan would be contingent on Robertson being able to step in and handle Big 12 edge rushers immediately. Who knows whether that can happen.
At any rate, it could be an interesting plot twist to follow through spring football and into the preseason.
