Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes II confirmed Monday that he hurt his left shoulder the series before he left Saturday's game, but said it’s fine now and didn’t bother him in the second half at Iowa State.
“It was a stinger of some sort,” Mahomes said. “I just wanted to get it checked out before I kept playing. And everything seems fine.”
An Iowa State defender popped Mahomes on the left shoulder at the end of an 8-yard run on Tech’s second series. Mahomes played the last three plays on that series, then the first play of the next before he went to the sideline and then the locker room, accompanied by an athletic trainer.
“It just kind of felt funky,” he said, “so I went and got it checked out by the doctors, and they said I was good to go, so I went back and kept playing.”
Nic Shimonek played five plays before Mahomes went back in for the rest of the game.
