Central Lubbock Councilman Todd Klein will not seek re-election in his district, he said this morning.
The almost off-hand comment came during public comments on how council in the coming weeks will redraw the political boundaries of the six city districts.
The key phrase, of course, is "in his district." When pressed about his plans during a break in the meeting, Klein said he would not comment on whether he intended to seek another office.
He's been rumored to want the mayor's job, and I've heard he's been setting up meetings with supporters. Mayor Tom Martin has already made clear he's running for re-election, an office he has kept pretty handily since his first defeat to David Miller in 2006.
Klein won his current seat in a tough fight with local attorney Kevin Glasheen that went to a runoff. He was outspent 9 to 1 in the 2007 contest.

Maybe his house is changing districts with the new maps?

Nah
A specific instruction of city council to the mapmakers was to leave all incumbents in their districts. Maurice Stanley's map was actually spiked after receiving first approval from the redistricting advisory committee because he accidentally bumped Councilman Victor Hernandez into Mayor Pro Tem Floyd Price's district.
Well...
I hope he DOES run for mayor! It'd be nice to have someone as mayor who actually listens to people and has an open mind-unlike the current occupant of the office. RUN, TODD, RUN!!!
THINK BIG TODD
Todd if others feel the way I do then you should run against Randy for congress, you are and honest man and you tell the truth, and you vote the people. Please run for US Congress then we would have a honest man in Congress. I hope you will run.
Why so snippy Elliott??
I like Todd and believe he has done a great job in this district. I'd love to see him run for Mayor and who knows.........maybe he could replace Naugehyde, eventually. That would be great!
Good
Please Todd go home and let someone else run for office!
