Texas Tech sophomore Davis Webb was named to the 2014 Davey O'Brien Award Watch List, which is given annually to the nation's best quarterback, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Wednesday.

Webb joins a large group of former Red Raider quarterbacks named to the watch list by the Davey O’Brien Foundation, including Seth Doege, Taylor Potts, Graham Harrell and his current head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

This year's list was selected based on player performance during the previous year and expectations heading into the 2014 college football season.

Last year, Webb threw for 2,718 yards and 20 touchdown passes. . He broke seven Big 12 Conference freshman records, including 400-yard passing performances, passing yards in a single game and passing touchdowns in a season. Webb threw four touchdowns in Tech's Holiday Bowl victory over Arizona State to win Offensive MVP honors.

This is the second preseason accolade already this summer for Webb, who was previously named to the Maxwell Award watch list.
