Sophomore quarterback Davis Webb was named to the 2014 Maxwell Award Watch List, the Maxwell Football Club announced Thursday.
The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, which analyzes both past performance and future potential.
Last year, Webb threw for 2,718 yards and 20 touchdown passes. . He broke seven Big 12 Conference freshman records, including 400-yard passing performances, passing yards in a single game and passing touchdowns in a season. Webb threw four touchdowns in Tech's Holiday Bowl victory over Arizona State to win Offensive MVP honors.
Webb joins eight other selections from the Big 12 - Malcolm Brown, RB, Texas; Antwan Goodley, WR, Baylor; Johnathan Gray, RB, Texas; Trevor Knight, QB, Oklahoma; Shock Linwood, RB, Baylor; Tyler Lockett, WR, Kansas State; Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor; Jake Waters, QB, Kansas State.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell, has been given to America's College Player of the year since 1937.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Nov. 3 while three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 24. The winners will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.
