Obama’s Diplomacy Simply is Ineffective

The diplomacy of Barack Obama consists of apologizing, bowing, and giving things like time, money, defense secrets, and other forms of aid and comfort to our enemies.  Such diplomacy is ineffective in achieving results beneficial to the United States of America and our allies.

At the end of February the Obama Administration promised to give food to North Korea.  In exchange, North Korea promised to stop nuclear testing, to stop long-range missile testing and launches, and to open its nuclear facilities to international inspectors.

Less than six weeks have passed since Obama secured promises from North Korea.  Now North Korea is about to launch a long-range missile capable of carrying a nuclear weapon to Hawaii, parts of Alaska, and possibly some of our West Coast cities.

It appears North Korea is also planning to test a nuclear weapon, perhaps at about the same time.  North Korea likes to be dramatic so it can frighten the United States and the Pacific Rim, as China would expect its good puppet to do.

Obama will respond by blaming George W. Bush for somehow creating the problem.  Obama will undoubtedly ask China for help, as Obama appears to be still oblivious that North Korea keeps us occupied while China prepares to take command of the Pacific Ocean.

The Obama Administration is now planning to negotiate with Iran.  Obama claims Iran is not making nuclear weapons, and the Iranian leadership has supported Obama by also claiming they would never make nuclear weapons.

It is unfortunate that Obama grounded our 747-laser based weapons designed to destroy enemy missiles during lift phase.  As this launch will be a provocation and military threat, blowing up the missile before it clears North Korea could send a strong signal to the North Korean leadership.

Diplomacy only works in favor of tyrants unless the good guys have military force to back up the diplomacy.  Since Obama refuses to commit military force to his diplomacy, we the good guys and our allies find ourselves in ever increasing danger due to the very actions of our own President.

Dr. May

A very good article, but don't you know that the Chinese are peace loving and do not pose a threat to us.

The Telegraph April 10, 2012

Beijing secretly fires lasers to disable US satellites

China has secretly fired powerful laser weapons designed to disable American spy satellites by "blinding" their sensitive surveillance devices, it was reported yesterday.

The document said that China could blind American satellites with a ground-based laser firing a beam of light to prevent spy photography as they pass over China.

According to senior American officials: "China not only has the capability, but has exercised it." American satellites like the giant Keyhole craft have come under attack "several times" in recent years.

Although the Chinese tests do not aim to destroy American satellites, the laser attacks could make them useless over Chinese territory.

The American military has been so alarmed by the Chinese activity that it has begun test attacks against its own satellites to determine the severity of the threat.

Satellites are especially vulnerable to attack because they have predetermined orbits, allowing an enemy to know where they will appear.

"The Chinese are very strategically minded and are extremely active in this arena. They really believe all the stuff written in the 1980s about the high frontier," said one senior former Pentagon official.

There has been increasing alarm in parts of the American military establishment over China's growing military ambitions.

Military experts have already noted that Chinese military expenditure is increasingly designed to challenge American military pre-eminence by investing in weaponry that can attack key systems such as aircraft carriers and satellites.

At the same time, China is engaged in a large-scale espionage effort against American high-tech firms working on projects such as the multibillion-pound DD(X) destroyer programme.

Several spy rings have been cracked and the FBI is increasing the number of counter-intelligence staff tracking the Chinese effort.

@May....And so.....

May, let's see now North Korea wants to launch a satellite, which is really disguised as a long range missile test, and they are apparently preparing to test a third nuke. Meantime, Iran is about to develop a nuclear bomb.

You conclude that Obama's diplomacy has failed, and the Mayonaisean solution is to immediately open two more new war fronts.

You want to put our current set of war weary troops from Iraq, and those coming home from the Afghanistan draw down into two new wars.

As a chicken hawk armchair general with very limited military experience are you seem completely confident. And you seem to be willing to risk the complete fall of the United States in doing so.

May: "Since Obama refuses to commit military force to his diplomacy, we the good guys and our allies find ourselves in ever increasing danger due to the very actions of our own President."

May, lLet me refresh your memory:

Obama to Iran and Israel: 'As President of the United States, I Don't Bluff' By Jeffrey Goldberg

Mar 2 2012, 7:00 AM ET 1727

Dismissing a strategy of "containment," the president tells me it's "unacceptable" for the Islamic Republic to have a nuclear weapon..."

"In the most extensive interview he has given about the looming Iran crisis, Obama told me earlier this week that both Iran and Israel should take seriously the possibility of American action against Iran's nuclear facilities. "I think that the Israeli government recognizes that, as president of the United States, I don't bluff." He went on, "I also don't, as a matter of sound policy, go around advertising exactly what our intentions are. But I think both the Iranian and the Israeli governments recognize that when the United States says it is unacceptable for Iran to have a nuclear weapon, we mean what we say." http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2012/03/obama-to-iran-and-israel-as-president-of-the-united-states-i-dont-bluff/253875/

Alas and alack, you May know the real truth. Hey, use the Google and see how many times Obama has said: "All options are on the table" when referring to Iran.

BTW, why did the USS Enterprise (sans Captain Kirk) join the Abraham Lincoln, in the Persian Gulf? Did I mention that both were aircraft carriers?

Congratulations on switching from hate to fear in your anti-Obama campaign. Now if you could just find the facts to support it. Today's Rasmussen shows Obama with a +2 over Romney, down one point from yesterday's +3 over Romney. Remember, Rasmussen polling was correct in 2008.

Obviousman,

A long-range missile such as the North Koreans are going to launch can put a satellite in precise orbit or a nuclear weapon in the middle of Portland. The technology is the same, only the payload is different.

12
4

@May,, yes....

May, however have the North Koreans been able to develop a nuclear device that would fit as payload in a missile?

What would happen if the North Koreans made an nuclear strike on the United States? The response from the United States would be instant and sufficient enough to completely wipe their country out?

Do you really believe they are that stupid?

You never had children. And you obviously don't know how to deal with spoiled children. Using your way of thinking your children would either be dead or you would be in prison for child abuse.

The "spoiled children of the world" are no different. Parental measures to deal with children are very much akin to what is called diplomacy.

BTW the same measure will also work with the feeble minded.

It would seem that you should study one to learn about the other. That will involve approaching the subject matter with an open mind.

@May...Star Wars?

May: "It is unfortunate that Obama grounded our 747-laser based weapons designed to destroy enemy missiles during lift phase."

Here is what is the real story from http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123291308 on Posted 2/24/2012 from The Official U.S. Air Force web site.

"The bottom line is the Airborne Laser test program is closing," Warmka said. "After very successfully accomplishing its key Missile Defense Agency Knowledge Points, the program transitioned into a science and technology effort in 2010. Over the past two years, MDA's Directed Energy Program Element continued to receive reduced appropriations. In consideration of the reduced funds, MDA began program closeout and awarded a contract for storage."

Note "reduced appropriations" in that statement. Who in the government makes appropriations? Well, Congress of course. In 2010 in the House, Republicans were cutting everything, did they pass a bill for said appropriations? No they didn't

And predictably of course, it is Obama's fault.

You do need to do more research May.......

The occasion of this month.....

Did you know this month is grilled cheese month? There is an A-J blog devoted to this, with some great recipes.

It certainly makes for interesting reading rather than the daily hate, fear from this blog.

4
15

Obviousman,

I do my research very well.

Barack Obama shut down the Airborne Laser. Obama is destroying decades of military advancement and making us vulnerable to nuclear blackmail and nuclear attack. The enormity of the damage he has already done to our national security is staggering.

“Bipartisan Call for Obama to Reverse Missile Defense Cuts”

Republican Senators Murkowski, Sessions, Inhofe, and Kyl joined Democratic Senators Lieberman and Begich in sending a letter to President Obama calling on him "to sustain the ability of the Missile Defense Agency and the military services to develop an integrated, layered defense against the threat of ballistic missiles to the United States, our deployed forces, and our allies." The Senators urge Obama to halt plans announced today by Secretary Gates "to cancel or reduce such major programs as the Airborne Laser, Multiple Kill Vehicle, and the installation of additional Ground-Based Interceptor missiles in Alaska, and cut the MDA's budget for Fiscal Year 2010 by $1.4 billion."

The Senators stress that these systems are not only necessary because "our adversaries continue to invest large sums in the development" of offensive missiles, but because "Cooperation on ballistic missile defense is also essential to our most important alliances." Gates's announced cuts to missile defense, including what amounts to the complete elimination of the Airborne Laser Program, seems poorly timed coming just 24 hours after the North Korean missile test. The Airborne Laser was designed for just such a threat, but will now be relegated to "an R&D effort."

If we were to intervene militarily in North Korea,

we would have to borrow the money from their ally, China.

@May...OK

May: "“Bipartisan Call for Obama to Reverse Missile Defense Cuts”

Yes, you did your research up to a point. But, what appropriations bill was passed by Congress -number, please. And where is the news item about Obama vetoing this bill? He only threatened a veto on this and other items. So far Congress has not given the President the power of a line-item veto. You still don't get it do you?

Further research will reveal that this technology was "mothballed."

That does not mean that it was tossed in the trash. Reduction in funding does not mean that all research stopped.

Ah, but you want to use it in an aggressive action against North Korea in their missile launch and start a war. OK!

When it is summer, it is time to mothball your winter wear, but in the case of Climate Change, it may be necessary to throw it away.

4
10

Obviousman is wrong as usual

Kim Jong -Un, the leader of NKorea, is not even 30 years old yet. Think about that for at least a second.

Obvious, I see you are Cherry Picking Rasmussen polling. You libs usually hate Rasmussen because they are conservative. LOL

Troops would not be involved in a similar scale as used in the Middle East. Not in NKorea or in Iran. Any military action would be a surgical strike at very specific targets.

Obama will say whatever it takes to get re-elected. The I don't bluff is hilarious. Of course, Iran will NOT have any nuclear weapons before election day. wink wink.

Yeah Obvious, Obama has no say unless he vetoes a bill. Give me a break. Yeah Obvious, there is nothing going on behind the scenes. You are a tool is all I can say.

Obviousman: "...however have the North Koreans been able to develop a nuclear device that would fit as payload in a missile?" One of the dumbest questions I have ever heard.

Obviousman: "When it is summer, it is time to mothball your winter wear, but in the case of Climate Change, it may be necessary to throw it away." Oops, now this is dumbest. You out do yourself with each post. Are you going to throw away your coats and other winter clothes. Heck no, you are just a giant exaggerator!!!

Interferring with Spy Satellites

We cannot blame China for blinding our spy satellites as they pass over Chinese territory. We can only hope that we are doing the same to their satellites that spy on our territory. It is a question of national security for both countries.

4 more years of Democratic bliss with Barack Obama

I can think of no other logical options

I can think of no other logical options. Barack Obama either does not understand diplomacy or Barack Obama is actually on the side of North Korea and Iran. Neither option is a good option.

Wait...

I thought Obama is on the side of Russia?

4

Is it any wonder that when you mention May's name

in public, people roll their eyes and say, "he's a nut"!

7
3

@May....Failed diplomacy?

May, you might want to read this article. A version of this appeared in today's A-J.

"Iran suggests it's ready to bargain over nuclear program April 10, 2012

TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran is signaling a possible compromise offer as it heads into crucial talks with world powers deeply suspicious of its nuclear program: offering to scale back uranium enrichment but not abandon the ability to make nuclear fuel.

The proposal -- floated by the country's nuclear chief as part of the early parrying in various capitals before negotiations get under way Friday -- suggested that sanctions-battered Iran is ready to bargain.

But this gambit, at least, appeared to fall short of Western demands that Iran hand over its most potent nuclear material and ease a standoff that has rattled nerves and spooked markets with seesaw oil prices and threats of Israeli military strikes.

The talks involving Iran and the five permanent United Nations Security Council nations plus Germany, to be held in Istanbul, are the first direct negotiations on Tehran's nuclear program since a swift collapse more than 14 months ago."

And so all the pressure brought by the United States and other nations isn't working?

7
4

Shame, shame

on May. “It’s one thing to be not informed,” explains David Barker, a political scientist at the University of Pittsburgh who has studied conservative talk-radio listeners and Fox viewers. “It’s another thing to be misinformed, where you’re confident in your incorrectness. That’s the thing that’s really more problematic, democratically speaking—because if you’re confidently wrong, you’re influencing people.”

8
3

@BillyWayne LOL

Well, first Billy Wayne, I cherry pick the Republican Rasmussen poll, because that is May's favorite poll unless he can find another one with better results to make whatever absurd point he is trying to make.

Real Clear Politics has a summary of all of the major polls, and it as of today shows Obama leading by +5.7 points. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

As to Obama saying anything to get re-elected, I would point out that Romney, is doing the same thing.

Do you have a degree in nuclear weaponry? Have you seen pictures of the devices that North Korea used for their two tests? Do you know how much they weighed? Do you even know how much a typical tactical nuke weighs? A nuclear bomb with a 10 kiloton yield weighs about 500 kg whereas a conventional bomb of the same weight contains about 250 kg of explosives. I assume that you are metric illiterate--one kilogram is approximately 2.2 pounds. So that would mean that a 10 kiloton yield bomb would weigh 1,100 pounds. All of that assumes you have the latest technology to produce such a device.

North Korea has allowed visitors to view the missile they plan to use to launch their satellite. The satellite weighs 200 lbs. One of the U.S. observers, who works for NASA, estimated that the total payload capacity was 1,000 pounds.

So, Billy Wayne, you can fantasize until your heart's content to believe whatever you wish, but the reality is that Obama will be re-elected in November 2012.

@ rettch:

While your observation is correct, in the interest of full disclosure it should be noted that May does enjoy consistent strong support from bigots, homophobes, folks who see Communists in their corn-flakes, and KFC (Kooks For Christ).

Here is WH diplomacy w NKorea

It is pretty sophisticated. LMAO

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/white-house-condemns-north-korea-rocket-propaganda-154427788.html

The White House on Tuesday denounced secretive North Korea's overtures to international news outlets ahead of a long-range rocket launch as "propaganda." It also mocked the impoverished Stalinist regime's claim that it merely aims to put a weather satellite in orbit, saying it should just "go to weather.com."

Taking aim at North Korea's unprecedented media blitz ahead of the planned launch, U.S. National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor told reporters that "you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know this is propaganda. North Korea is trying to advance, test and show off its ballistic missile technology. The U.N. bans this activity, which is why they're using the press to pretend it's a satellite launch."

6

Obvious geez...

I have worked at Los Alamos Nat'l Labs, Sandia Nat'l Labs and was even up at Pantex two years ago, though I readily admit I am not a nuclear scientist. I only have a BSEE. How about you?? Do you have any degree?

I remember when I lived on the north end of Las Vegas. People get offended when you tell them that you work at Nevada Test Site but can't tell them what you do or anything else. Please be ready to be offended...

Do I know what size Nkorea's bombs are? No. But even a dirty bomb will fit in a 5 pound briefcase. You should consider getting a real life.

What Federal laws have the four New Black Panthers in Florida broken in offering a reward for Zimmerman? The answer is none. This is a Florida law enforcement problem.

Thank you for exposing you bigotry with "Does Obama look like those assailants?"

Obvious loves polling

...well when it is in Obama's favor. So here is a good one, Obviousman does not know that polls don't have to lie to not tell the truth...

The most recent WaPo/ABC news poll has a double digit lead for Obama. Not only that, the Dems have a double digit lead in the pollng sample. LOL

It was taken with a D/R/I of 34/23/34. Why just report news when you can make it??

"What happens when you switch from a D+4 to a D+11 in measuring Obama’s standing? Suddenly, his job approval goes from 46% to 50% — actually, a rather weak gain given the sampling distortion in the poll. Not coincidentally, the last time Obama hit 50% in this poll was in February, which also had a D+11 sample, after January’s D+7. Adding seven points to the Democratic advantage impacted Obama’s performance in all areas, although perhaps not as much as the editors had hoped: •Economy — Up six points from 38% to 44% •International affairs — Down two points from January’s poll, 47% from 49% •Right/wrong direction – Up three points from January"

Obvious

"Thank you for exposing you (sic) bigotry with "Does Obama look like those assailants?""

No, thank Obama for exposing his bigotry when he said he looked like Trayvon Martin.

I would think that Obama's bigotry, real or imagined, is a lot more important than mine? Wouldn't you agree??

republican assault on women continues

From the fact-checker at the WaPo. This is how the WaPo rolls...

-------------------------

“For far too long women have been left behind in Obama’s job market. Of the 740,000 jobs lost since Obama took office, 683,000 of them were held by women. That is truly unsustainable.”

— Statement by Sharon Day, co-chair of the Republican National Committee, April 6, 2012

In an effort to fight back against Democratic claims of a Republican “war on women,” the Republican National Committee has rolled out a new and startling fact—that under Obama, women have lost seven times as many jobs as men.

We found this statistic surprising because we had been under the impression that men had fared worse than women in the recession. So do the RNC’s numbers add up?

-snip-

We cannot fault the RNC’s math, as the numbers add up. But at this point this figure doesn’t mean very much. It may simply a function of a coincidence of timing — a brief blip that could have little to do with “Obama’s job market.” If trends hold up over the next few months, then the RNC might have a better case. But at this point we will give this statistic our rarely used label:

TRUE BUT FALSE

Oblivious

Your assertion that the new Black Panthers broke no law when offering bounty is patently untrue. Vigilantism is definitely against the law. Inciting violence is against the law which they also did when citing *an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth*

Angela

If my memory serves me right from my college studies a person openly offers a bounty on someone to be murdered, that person can be charge with complicity if in fact that person is murdered. It looks like it would be a hate crime to me.

I know if the racial situation was turned around Jackson, Rangel, and Sharpton would be screaming their lungs out about it being a hate crime.

@Angela OKAAAY

Angela: "Vigilantism is definitely against the law. Inciting violence is against the law which they also did when citing *an eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth"

Please state the exact Federal or in this case state law which says "offering a reward for a person" is illegal. Good Luck.

Now, it the New Black Panthers actually took custody of Zimmerman, then they can be prosecuted for vigilantism. They haven't.

Do I agree what the New Black Panthers are doing? No, I do not. But, at this stage, they have broken no laws.

4
4

@Billy Wayne Polling.....

Billy Wayne, you show that you know nothing about polling. The polling sample is taken at random across the country. The fact that there were more Democrats than Republicans in this sample is meaningless especially when there were an equal number of Independents in the survey. The current sample shows that the majority of Americans are either Democrats or Independents.

Rasmussen is more suspect in its polling methods, especially when they will not reveal the process of how they "massage" the data.

In the RCP summary, you might note that Fox News on 3/12 showed Obama with a +4 lead over Romney.

4
5

What do women losing jobs have anything to do

With a bias against women? Why not put the stats of all the MEN losing work, as well? Why not also say that since the Democrats support pro-choice and that half the fetuses aborted would be women, that this is another example of the Democratic "assault" on women? Oh, how fun it is to watch people distort the obvious. If you really don't understand the reason why many women feel the Republican party is against them, then you'll never get it and twist anything around to suit your purposes. Standard BillyWayne practice.
