Barack Obama has officially overseen a greater rise in gasoline prices than even Jimmy Carter. After Obama spoke at the Keystone XL Pipeline, oil prices have continued to rise. Obama again made the public and the oil traders concerned and anxious.
The public and oil traders understood that Obama was not responsible for the increased drilling in the United States. It was private initiative that resulted in more drilling and more oil production. They also understood that not having the Keystone XL Pipeline to bring oil from Canada to the United States would decrease the supply of oil in the United States. Oil traders decided that the actions of Barack Obama would decrease our supply of oil without immediately decreasing the demand, so oil prices will go up for the foreseeable future.
Barack Obama has added another distinction to his Presidential resume. Obama has succeeded in increasing the price of gasoline by more than Jimmy Carter was able to achieve. As Lauren Fox of US News & World Report wrote,
Marking the similarities between President Barack Obama's time in office and former president Jimmy Carter's is nothing new. But as of Monday, Obama has hit one more Carter benchmark - both saw gas prices double in their first term of office.
In fact, while just barely, Obama has seen an even higher gas price increase than Carter dealt with under his administration.
Under the Carter administration, gas prices increased by 103.77 percent. Gas prices since Obama took office have risen by 103.79 percent. No other presidents in recent years have struggled as much with soaring oil prices. Under the Reagan administration, gas prices actually dropped 66 percent. When Bill Clinton was president, gas prices grew by roughly 30 percent, and under both Bush presidencies, gas prices rose by 20 percent.
The National Republican Congressional Committee called attention to Obama's recent "dishonorable distinction," blaming the Democrats' rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline as a major factor for skyrocketing gas prices.
Obama continues to push for wind and solar energy production, higher mileage requirements for vehicles, and other money and time wasting measures rather than simply drilling for oil like the Chinese, Russians, Cubans, Indians, and others are doing. The longer Obama refuses to listen to reason, the higher our gasoline prices will rise and the farther we will be from real energy solutions and a plentiful supply of inexpensive energy.

May: "Under the Carter administration, gas prices increased by 103.77 percent. Gas prices since Obama took office have risen by 103.79 percent. No other presidents in recent years have struggled as much with soaring oil prices."
Let's do the math on this. Obama beat Carter by a whopping 0.02 percent. Wow that is really significant isn't it.
What was the highest price of gasoline during the Carter Administration? How do gasoline prices today compare to the high gasoline prices under the George W. Bush Administration. Well, "The highest recorded gas price for unleaded auto during the terms of George W. Bush was $7.85 per gallon in the summer of 2008. "
Percentages can be deceptive measures unless you also provide the base numbers for the calculations. For example: Under the brilliant Mayor Windy Sitton Administration, there was a sign at slightly past University and 19th Street, that said: 40% of all accidents in Lubbock were alcohol related (no year was mentioned). But, what the sign was also saying was that 60% of all accidents in Lubbock were NOT alcohol related. Translated, that meant it was safer to try to drive drunk, than sober.
Back on point: So why didn't you compare Obama and Bush gasoline prices and percentages? Oh, I forget, cons can't calculate.
Where did you get the idea for today's blog? Well, of course, the con web is alive with the Obama gasoline price news.
However, you need to put on your thinking cap. How about this from Reuters today?
"OPEC leaves 2012 oil demand steady, pumps more
Reuters) - OPEC left its forecast for world oil demand growth in 2012 unchanged for a second month, saying there were signs that a slowdown in global economic activity is easing.
In a monthly report on Thursday, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said world oil demand would rise by 860,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2012, steady from the previous assessment.
OPEC also reported higher supply from its members as Libya's oil industry recovers, with production rising to 31.31 million bpd in March, 1.31 million bpd above target levels according to secondary sources, despite lower Iranian production.
The group, in a bid to be more transparent, also began issuing production figures as reported to OPEC's Vienna headquarters by member-countries....." http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/04/12/us-opec-oil-idUSBRE83B0GS20120412
Have you checked market oil prices say for this month? Oil is down -2.89% and trending downward. Why? Check out the OPEC announcement.
Again, you and the cons need to be reminded that oil is a commodity in the GLOBAL economy. U.S. oil production has trended upward since 2005. The Keystone XL pipeline, if in operation today, would not lower gasoline prices. The president of Keystone, will not guarantee that oil would be sold exclusively to the United States (see comments in response to your previous blog on oil prices). Part of the high current price of oil is due to speculators (again, you need to refer to your previous blog, for the information on that).
Did you know that 100% of the oil from Alaska is going to Japan? Why is that? http://articles.mcall.com/2012-03-14/opinion/mc-gas-prices-rex-20120314_1_gas-prices-whitney-houston-new-blood Where is Sarah Palin as governor when we need her>
May: "Obama continues to push for wind and solar energy production, higher mileage requirements for vehicles, and other money and time wasting measures rather than simply drilling for oil like the Chinese, Russians, Cubans, Indians, and others are doing."
May, why do you suppose the major oil companies are investing millions in alternative energy sources like bio-fuels?
And guess what May, gasoline prices are starting to trend downward. You need to check out this chart: http://205.254.135.7/oog/info/twip/twip_gasoline.html
By election time gasoline prices will be down and all of your anti-Obama hate rants about gasoline prices will be worthless......
More wasted time and pixels on your part about a subject you don't really understand.........
Obviousman, like Wind Power and Solar Energy....slow !
Obviousman, you are at it again . I wonder how much time you waste ,of your day looking-up all those statistics . They mean little to us at the ' Pump '....The Gasoline/ Diesel Pump is the Real World !
Wind Power and Solar Energy , although they have their limited function, are expensive to produce; and I can't put'em in my tanks to get me down the road . Good ol' Oil is plentiful and reliable; too bad the Governments have control it to 'power-play their political games . '
Now, Obviousman...do the math : I have a simple Freightliner with a Detriot Diesel , I attempt to get it down the road at least 400/500 mile per day on an 11/hr window of opportunity to make a living . I have to refuel mostly every 2 days ....each saddle-tank on that Tractor holds approximately 140/gallons...they call them 150/gal-tanks but they basically hold 135/140....but they are 2 ! I only get approximately 8/9 miles to the gallon ....do the math, and you can see why we are alarm by the prices !
Statistics don't mean crap to me at the pump !
Oil will be expensive under any president
Supply, demand, speculation and greed.
That is what is driving the cost of energy. Not which party is in office.
Nice try though.
American Oil
Why don't we just nationalize our oil industry, sell only to Americans in the fifty states with no exports and no speculators allowed, and see what happens. This arrangement should make the cons happy.
4 more years of Democratic bliss with Barack Obama

No, conservatives are not happy when socialist try to get the government to take over businesses.
Obama Now Exceeds Jimmy
Obama Now Exceeds Jimmy Carter on Gasoline Price Increases. Now that's funny! Ole Jimmy suggested we turn our thermostats up in summer and down in winter to save energy. It was actually not a bad idea. I don't hear the Pres saying that. Maybe he needs to have a beer summit with the heads of energy companies. Actually I believe the Pres is just waiting for the right opportunity to nationalize the oil companies. I'm surprised we're not hearing about all the filthy rich oil profits. Must not be on the press' radar.
Donald May style republican
Donald May style republican politics can be boiled down to catch phrases and buzz words. Republicans say things like “freedom” in nearly every speech and blog. Who doesn’t love freedom? They also like to mention “Big Government”, “Government Run”, and the Constitution every chance they get. Everyone hates Big Government, right?
The republicans next all time favorite is "socialism." Everybody hates socialism, right? Social Security, Medicare, farm subsidies, oil subsidies, right?
And then you hear their catch phrase, about the "Job Creators". Where are the jobs, Mr Speaker? More lip service from the right.
Cut taxes? Tell me how Mr. Reagan helped me pay lower taxes with his 1986 tax reform act? Did it affect the upper class? No. That's when taxpayer class warfare started.
All you hear from Donald May and like cronies, are words meant to elicit strong emotional responses and nostalgic references to a non-existent idyllic past.
So, go drive in these countries
You want low gas prices, well take your pick of these countries, and check out especially Venezuela (the name Hugo Chavez ring a bell?) where gas is 12 cents per gallon:
Cuba Havana $3.03 Taiwan Taipei $2.84 Lebanon Beirut $2.63 South Africa Johannesburg $2.62 Nicaragua Managua $2.61 Panama Panama City $2.19 Russia Moscow $2.10 Puerto Rico San Juan $1.74 Saudi Arabia Riyadh $0.91 Kuwait Kuwait City $0.78 Egypt Cairo $0.65 Nigeria Lagos $0.38 Venezuela Caracas $0.12
@Charlie 3 Hmmmmm.......
Charlie 3: "Wind Power and Solar Energy , although they have their limited function, are expensive to produce...."
Perhaps in your trips you have noticed the huge "wind farms around Sweetwater, yes? Someone has paid for these "expensive" windmills, and someone is making money on them, otherwise they would be there.
As to operating a truck, I was under the impression that truckers had a fuel cost allowance when they contract to haul a load. Perhaps you should contract out of a trucking company.
Hey, maybe you should move to El Paso, or Del Rio or Brownsville Then you could run across the border and fill up in Mexico. That would at least cut down your fuel cost on one leg of your operation.
Charlie 3: "Statistics don't mean crap to me at the pump !"
Thank you, for pointing out that to May. He was the one who brought up statistics in today's blog. Everyone knows 68.72% of all statistics are bogus.
Word Play
In an effort to get past Dr. May's phobia, we shall start today's session with a simple question:
In baseball, the catcher uses a ________ to catch the ball thrown from the pitcher.
Putting natural resources off limits to job and wealth creation
Drives up costs. We have lots of natural gas so the prices are rock bottom. The Neo Marxists in government today who demand that government permisssion be granted before business can proceed, put off limits exploitation of critically important natural resources in coal and oil. Villification of natural gas is beginning as well as villification of superior meat protein.
@Chicken Fingers Shhh.......
Chicken Fingers, are you referring to the "He-whom-MAY-not-be-named" Republican candidate that Mr. Conservative avoids speaking of? Or should that be who?
The coal industry.....
With power plants switching from coal to natural gas for the production of electricity, what is going to happen to the coal industry in the United States? It is definitely some kind of a Communist plot. Without doubt, it must be those 78 to 81 in the Democrat Party that Alan West spoke of.
Now, let's see here:
"Coal exports surge to highest level since 1991
By MATTHEW BROWN, Associated Press – 2 days ago
BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — U.S. coal exports reached their highest level in two decades last year as strong demand from Asia and Europe offered an outlet for a fuel that is falling from favor at home.
U.S. Department of Energy data analyzed by The Associated Press reveal that coal exports topped 107 million tons of fuel worth almost $16 billion in 2011. That's the highest level since 1991, and more than double the export volume from 2006.
Much of the increase went to slake the thirst of power-hungry markets in Asia, where rapid development has sparked what mining company Peabody Energy calls a "global coal super cycle" that heralds renewed interest in the fuel.
The AP's analysis showed coal exports to South Korea leapt 81 percent last year to more than 10 million tons. India saw a 65 percent jump, to 4.5 million tons. And Japan bought almost 7 million tons of U.S. coal last year — a 119 percent increase — as the nation sought alternatives to nuclear power after an earthquake and tsunami prompted the Fukushima nuclear complex meltdown...." http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gEPo52y3iAhPhyDU_Ir5N3pz6QZA?docId=b1e41839ca5f47e5a39e44aec019c633
Do investors get to speculate on the price of coal, like they do on oil?
Obviousman once again showing
Obviousman once again showing off his math skills.
"Let's do the math on this. Obama beat Carter by a whopping 0.02 percent. Wow that is really significant isn't it."
What part of 'Obama Now Exceeds Jimmy Carter on Gasoline Price Increases' do you not understand? I'd bet you never used your math degree to solve practical problems.
"The highest recorded gas price for unleaded auto during the terms of George W. Bush was $7.85 per gallon in the summer of 2008." This came from chacha.com (http://www.chacha.com/question/what-was-the-highest-gas-price-while-george-w-bush-was-president) but is another one of your red herrings. Even if accurate, it means nothing as that price could be from some remote town in Alaska. In any case, the number is not important.
“Back on point: So why didn't you compare Obama and Bush gasoline prices and percentages? Oh, I forget, cons can't calculate.” First, May did not write the story. Like I said in another blog, even Jay Leno is making fun of the stat that prices have doubled like they did in the Carter admin. You gotta love it!
So is US News & World Report a bastion of conservatives like you assumed the CSM is?? You make us laugh soooo much. Oh wait, Lauren Fox, the author, has FOX in her name. Much like the Christian Science Monitor has Christian in its name, as you pointed out yesterday. Well, there you go Obviousman now you know why those Obama and Bush comparisons were not done. Did I mention you make us laugh?
I didn’t waste my time on the rest of your red herrings. I would bet no one else read them either.
@AmericanFirst
And again you presume too much, as if you speak for all Conservatives.

"With power plants switching
"With power plants switching from coal to natural gas for the production of electricity, what is going to happen to the coal industry in the United States?"
Obama's EPA is forcing shut downs of coal powered power plants. This will help in his losing of several states in the election. Please continue mentioning coal, as this is a losing issue for Obama.
Candidate Obama: “So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” This is one of the few campaign promises he is trying to keep. But many democrats abandon him on Cap n Trade issues and so will their states.
Tyrants raise taxes because they hate Liberty
Tyrants raise taxes because they hate Liberty.
Only Socialist tyrants think cutting taxes is a government subsidy to those whose taxes are cut.
Our money is not the property of the government. Money is the property of the individual. The money, like the government, belong to We the People.
Taxes are paid to run the essential functions of our Federal Government. These essential functions, as clearly delineated in our Constitution, include keeping our borders secure and our military and national security storng.
When a government confiscates money from the people for the purpose of the politicians buying votes, we then have moved to a tyrannical government. Barack Obama has attracted the attention of the people by accelerating the rate of increase and the magnitude of the tyranny.
A simple plea
Dr. May, please stop taking my money to Illinois to farm...
Misogynist
That quote sounds a bit condescending, but I seriously doubt President Obama is a misogynist. I think he was trying for an informal approach, which probably isn't a good idea at a press conference.

How much gas was used?
"The government spent at least $205,075 in 2010 to “translocate” a single bush in San Francisco that stood in the path of a $1.045-billion highway-renovation project that was partially funded by the economic stimulus legislation President Barack Obama signed in 2009."
http://cnsnews.com/news/article/shovel-ready-san-fran-205075-translocate-one-shrub-path-stimulus-project
The plant can be bought at a nursery in San Fran for $16.
Of course, Nancy Pelosi was the recipient of this Billion dollar project.
This drive by commenting that Obviousman is famous for is kinda fun...
@May. . . Tyranny . . .
I lived in a country that had a military dictatorship for about a decade or so. Fortunately, I only experienced about three years of it. Tyranny is when you express your view in a public media and end up being arrested and tortured with no contact with the outside world. I had a friend who suffered this. He never was the same after this experience, and eventually hanged himself. This was a man who truly believed in his country and felt it could do better.
Just-a-thought is right when he says you use buzz words that evoke an emotional response without an intelligent thought behind them. The Idyllic never existed. It is an abstraction. The romanticism and nostalgia for the Old South is buried, too, under the weight of 258,000 dead Confederate soldiers and 360,000 Union troops. http://www.civilwarhome.com/casualties.htm
You have no idea what tyranny really is. If you did, you would be more selective in your vocabulary.

@Billy Wayne....LOL
Billy Wayne: "Obama's EPA is forcing shut downs of coal powered power plants"
Billy Wayne, this is a favorite con myth. Here is what the head of the EPA, Lisa Jackson said: “We have no plans to regulate existing sources." The rule applies to any NEW coal power plants, and coal power plants currently under construction will fall into the "existing sources" category.
Perhaps you should read: "EPA to impose first greenhouse gas limits on power plants" http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/health-science/epa-to-impose-first-greenhouse-gas-limits-on-power-plants/2012/03/26/gIQAiJTscS_story.html
You could of course provide a list of coal powered plants that are being forced to shut down under "Obama EPA rule." Good luck on finding those.
Billy Wayne, you are an absolute riot today. I see that I have managed to get "under your skin." LOL
Largordo
Were you speaking for the entire population when you spoke about nationalizing the oil companies because you said, "We should". It sounds like to me you presume to much.

It was meant as WE THE PEOPLE, and it was a hypothetical lampooning of con mentality. It would take as much to get things to work May's way.

@Billy Wayne LOL
Billy Wayne, the single source of that information is from cnsnews.com.
Reading further down in this "news" article, you will see the following: "While the MOA did not detail all the costs for moving the bush, it did state that in addition to funding removal and transportation of the Franciscan manzanita, Caltrans agreed to transfer $79,470 to the Presidio Trust “to fund the establishment, nurturing, and monitoring of the Mother Plant in its new location for a period not to exceed ten (10) years following relocation and two (2) years for salvaged rooted layers and cuttings according to the activities outlined in the Conservation Plan.”
And yet this "news" source says it cost exactly $205,075. Was that just a guess? Maybe it was $205,074.50 and they rounded it up. But, I doubt it, because cons can't cypher costs......
Kinda reminds me of all the money us taxpayers forked out to fly George W. Bush down to Texas, 77 times, to cut brush on his ranch. That cost us $$226,072 per trip. It makes this bush deal seem like a bargain. LOL
@BillyWayne . . .Obviousman
That $226,072 at 77 times to George W. Bush's ranch to cut brush is a mere $17,407,544.00 to the taxpayers. But hey, who's counting?
4 more years of Democratic bliss with Barack Obama
Obviousman. LMFAO
"Billy Wayne, the single source of that information is from cnsnews.com."
So now you are going to provide multiple sources on every one of you red herrings?? Of course not. What a hypocrite you are! You had a quote above with zero links or sources. I found it at chacha.com. LOL
If it cost more than $1 it was too much to move that plant. Btw, I didn’t even read most of the story. Didn’t you notice that I wrote that I was doing drive by commenting like you do. Red Herrings galore. And it apparently works as you spent a lot of time on it. LMFAO some more…
“Kinds reminds me of all the money us taxpayers forked out to fly George W. Bush down to Texas, 77 times, to cut brush on his ranch. That cost us $$226,072 per trip. It makes this bush deal seem like a bargain.” I am literally laughing with tears running down my cheek. In only 3 years, Obama has gone golfing more than 90 times since he has become president. I don’t have to provide links and stats to know that it costs a LOT more than $226K to provide security on a golf course!! Meanwhile, Bush can actually do work at his ranch but nothing but golf gets accomplished on a golf course. So here we have a another one of your red herrings backfiring on you yet again. SAD
@Billy Wayne.....Uh.......
Billy Wayne Bush's trips were vacation trips.
Billy Wayne: "I don’t have to provide links and stats to know that it costs a LOT more than $226K to provide security on a golf course!!" Uh, Billy Wayne Bush played golf also.
How about "Barack Obama plays golf eight more times than George W Bush " http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/7607947/Barack-Obama-plays-golf-eight-more-times-than-George-W-Bush.html
You cons really must be worried if you are keeping track of how many times Obama plays golf.....LOL
Grasping at straws, you are......LOL
Obviousman is sad
Billy Wayne: "Obama's EPA is forcing shut downs of coal powered power plants"
Your story from the WaPO validates what I said. Did you read it? Let me quote the first part of it.
“The Environmental Protection Agency will issue the first limits on greenhouse gas emissions from new power plants as early as Tuesday, according to several people briefed on the proposal. The move could end the construction of conventional coal-fired facilities in the United States.” Obama’s EPA is making up regulations to shut down coal plants. This will hurt him in the election. Pretty simple stuff.
Your stupid quote from Lisa Jackson is all but a bald face lie from her. They ALREADY regulate existing sources. What a dumb quote.
Without breaking a sweat for you....
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505245_162-57388081/5-pa-coal-fired-power-plants-to-close/
“5 Pa. coal-fired power plants to close
PITTSBURGH — GenOn Energy Inc. plans to close five of its older coal-fired power plants in Pennsylvania over the next four years.
The company, based in Houston, said Wednesday that tough new environmental rules make it unprofitable to operate the plants, which generate a total of 3,140 megawatts of electricity. The plants are in Portland, Shawville, Titus, New Castle and Elrama. Two plants in Ohio and one in New Jersey will also be closed. The company said the timeframes are subject to further review based on market conditions.
Tougher air quality rules from the Environmental Protection Agency are forcing some companies to choose between costly upgrades, closing older plants or building new power plants that can also run on cleaner-burning natural gas.”
You should really consider getting a different occupation then professional commenter as you are not very good at it.
“Billy Wayne, you are an absolute riot today. I see that I have managed to get "under your skin." To the contrary Obviousman, it is just the opposite, I find you an easy target. You are 180 degrees off.
