Texas Tech received an oral commitment on Friday from Fort Bend Marshall offensive lineman Maurice Porter, the recruiting service Rivals.com reported.
Porter, a 6-foot-5, 284-pound tackle, is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals, Scout and ESPN.com, and he chose Tech over reported offers from a number of major-conference programs, including Texas A&M, Baylor and Oklahoma State.
An ESPN.com scouting report describes Porter as "a tough battler who is able to dominate as both a run and pass blocker."
Porter is the ninth player from the 2013 class to commit to Tech and the second lineman.
An oral commitment is non-binding until a player signs a national letter of intent.
