I have to admit, I assumed too much when I learned the title -- but I am still thrilled to learn that Joe Ely has a new live recording set for release on Jan. 15.It is a live recording of a concert by Ely with primo accordion player Joel Guzman, and the title of the CD is

Actor Kevin Helmer has been active in promoting many of the theatrical works in Lubbock. I thought that is what I would be reading when he e-mailed me today.Instead, he had bad news.I asked him if I could simply reproduce his e-mail -- Here it is -- Do take note of his language warning -- and Kevin, if I somehow screw up your link, please log on and share it via this blog. From Kevin Helmer:The Lubbock Community Theater lost a good friend and supporter and, yes, actor on Monday.

There's every possibility that this blog could just fill with Ralph DeWitt quotes. I'm not certain even he knows when he has said something either funny-haha or funny-sarcastic that cuts to the bottom line.Ralph sent me an e-mail to let me know that his venue is selling tickets for upcoming shows by David Allan Coe and SAOSIN, at which point I revealed my ignorance, not for the first or last time, and fired back an e-mail asking, "Hey Ralph, What is a SAOSIN."Wisdom from DeWitt:"That's actually the name of a band. The 2007 edition of Ballet Lubbock's "The Nutcracker" opens on Thursday and runs through Sunday at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre, with tickets already selling very, very quickly at Select-A-Seat outlets.I was surprised, however, to receive an e-mail at home over the weekend from Ballet Lubbock artistic director Yvonne Racz, stating, "I am going to be the Mouse King on Thursday, opening night."Assuming that one of her dancers had been injured or had fallen ill, I replied with a request for those details.

Don Caldwell tells me that changes are in store with the popular Nostalgia Concerts and other variety shows in 2008 at the Cactus Theater.Frankly, it all sounds a little risky to me, but then I am not the theater owner trying to make everyone happy when... some folks say they cannot afford the ticket price,... and some folks say they

When does it stop? Or should I ask, how far will it go?Lubbock city officials say that drawings by an award-winning Lubbock artist and Texas Tech instructor are "offensive."The targeted art works by Lahib Jaddo are described by Betsy Blaney of the Associated Press as "predominantly pencil-sketched images of a nearly fully clothed mother who is breast-feeding, and a nude pregnant woman."
