Morton, Seminole, Hale Center, Levelland voters going to polls

South Plains residents are reminded to cast their votes for their local elections between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

Here are the candidates and voting information for elections in Morton, the Seminole Hospital District, Hale Center and Levelland.

Morton has four candidates running to fill the seat of mayor and five people are running for two positions on the Morton ISD school board. Voting information and candidates are as follows:

Election day: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Morton City Hall, 201 East Wilson Ave.

Morton Mayor

n Mary New, 36, 805 East Hayes St., Morton, two children

“We need more things in this town for the younger people and see if we can get some more people to come to our town.”

n Howell Ray Luper, 67, 607 East Hayes Ave., Morton, married to Nancy

“I was mayor of Morton from 1981 through 1988.”

n Alfred Scherer — did not respond to questionnaire

n Eric Silhan, 41, 304 East Grant Ave., Morton, married to Kim, three children

“My business experience and conservative directed approach to government along with my ability to lead and stand on my convictions make me the best qualified.”

Morton ISD School Board

n Kelly Dupler (incumbent) — did not respond to questionnaire

n Glen “Pug” Lyon, 35, 880 FM 3304, Morton, married to Shelley, two children

“I have two young children about to begin school and feel the younger generations, like myself, need to help make decisions that affect our youth.”

n Kevin Silhan (incumbent), 50, 2301 FM 597, Morton, married to Natalie, three children

“I have lived in Morton my entire life. There is no better place to work and raise a family. I owe it to my town.”

n Tony Soliz, 54, 510 West Fillmore, Morton, married to Brenda, four children

“I believe in Morton ISD. I would like to be involved in making our school a better place for up and coming students and teachers.”

In the Seminole Hospital District, two incumbents are running for re-election and with two additional candidates vying for the third at-large position on the hospital board. Voting information and candidates are as follows:

n Elizabeth Brown (incumbent), 62, 306 Southwest 22nd St., Seminole, married to Curtis

“I am the best candidate because I have a deep love and commitment to make our hospital one of the best in the area.”

n Chuck Easterbrooks (incumbent) — did not respond to questionnaire

n Geoff Gray — did not respond to questionnaire

n Tina Siemens, 42, P.O. Box 211, Seminole, married to John, two children

“I feel that its very important to give back to the community so I would be honored to serve on the board if elected.”

The city of Hale Center has three city council positions up for election and two positions on the Hale Center ISD school board. Voting information and candidates are as follows:

Hale Center City Council

n Jimmy Cameron (incumbent) — did not respond to questionnaire

Hale Center ISD School Board

“The unusual and possibly unique experience that I’m bringing to the table is sixteen years of experience in education.”

Levelland ISD has one contested race for the school board’s Dist. 5 seat. Voting information and candidates are as follows:

Election Day: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Levelland ISD Board of Education building, 704 11th St.

“I am school board ready — I have prior board experience and I have attended local school board meetings since 2008.”
