The Lubbock Emergency Management Department will monitor weather conditions this weekend because of the possibility of severe weather through Sunday.
The city asks residents to monitor local weather reports while making their plans as the National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a statement warning of severe weather and potentially flooding rainfall through Sunday across the South Plains.
The Weather Service warned localized rainfall accumulation from 1 to 5 inches is possible across the region.
If flooding does occur, the city urges residents to avoid driving unless necessary and not to drive around barricades.
Avoid low-lying roads.
Rising water can sweep away vehicles, and water that appears to be safe to drive through may not be.
If conditions warrant, the city will activate its Emergency Operations Center and provide more information to the public as needed.
