For all the people in West Texas who love Texas Tech Football, this one’s for you.
The Knights of Columbus will host the 54th Annual Texas Tech Football Kickoff Knight today, Aug. 24, from 6 to 9 p.m at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 4702 130th St. Special guests will be Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury and former Dallas Cowboy “Rocket” Ismail.
Jim Seideman, the member of the Knights of Columbus in charge of the event, said this event is not only beneficial to the Lubbock community, but to the football team itself.
“We looked at other universities, and one of their strongest recruiting things was tradition,” Seideman said. “We thought, what better way to promote tradition than to use our All-Americans and a winning tradition at Texas Tech?”
The Knights of Columbus use the Kickoff Knight to raise funds for endowed scholarships for athletes who have completed their athletic eligibility but who still need financial assistance to finish their degrees at the university. In the last 20 years, the Knights have raised more than $300,000 for Tech athletics.
Events on Saturday will include the Goin’ Band from Raiderland playing about 7:15 p.m.. The Texas Tech cheerleaders and the Miller Girls will also attend. Other events include a live auction and a gun raffle until 8:30 p.m., at which point Kingsbury and Ismail will deliver their speeches.
Tickets will be $35 at the door, or $30 on the Knights of Columbus website in advance. To purchase, visit www.kofclubbock3008.org and click on “tickets” under the Tech Knight tab.
