The Texas Tech women’s basketball team will be without a key component of its backcourt from a season ago.

Larryn Brooks, a senior guard, will not return for her final season as announced Tuesday in a Texas Tech press release.

Brooks, who is on course to graduate from Texas Tech in August, plans to transfer after earning a degree in Human Sciences.

“We were very fortunate to have Larryn as a part of this program for the last two seasons. Larryn’s mother is in poor health and has decided to transfer following graduation to be closer to her family,” Texas Tech head coach Candi Whitaker said. “We appreciate her dedication to Lady Raider Basketball and wish her and her family the best.”

The Richmond, Ind., native averaged 9.3 points and shot 89 percent from the free-throw line. She shot a perfect 1.000 from the charity stripe in nine games including four straight to end the season (17-17).

Brooks is the third player to leave the women’s basketball program, following the recent departure of Arella Guirantes in April and Japreece Dean from last November.
