The cover subject of today's Rice football game program is Owls receiver Jarett Dillard. The large-type headline is: "At Home In The End Zone.''
Dillard, of course, had scored a touchdown in 15 straight games going into the season, then was shut out through the first two games of this year, when he had 10 catches.
Well, the shutout streak's over. Dillard beat Jamar Wall on a post pattern in the second quarter and made a leaping catch for a 47-yard touchdown.
At home in the end zone, indeed. He was a Biletnikoff Award finalist -- one of just three -- last year as a sophomore. You wonder how everybody -- and I mean everybody, even Texas Tech -- missed on this guy. He played high school ball right there on the I-35 corridor at San Antonio Sam Houston.
I asked Mike Leach about that the other night, and Leach confessed that he didn't really remember Dillard coming out of high school.
