1 - 50-Yard Line Steakhouse
The
50-Yard Line is simply the best place in Lubbock
to eat before or after a Texas Tech sporting event.
The food is great -- including tender steaks and
flavorful blueberry muffins that accompany every
meal. When you arrive at the 50-Yard line, you
can expect to be greeted by a friendly hostess
and to find a relaxing drink in the cocktail lounge
(located to the right of the entrance). In addition
to fine food, this restaurant has ambiance that
every sports fan will love. The entire restaurant
is steeped in Red Raider history. The walls are
decorated with pictures of former players, team
photos and action shots. What can you expect during
a visit to the 50-Yard Line? Once you are seated
at your table you'll be given a small plate of
fresh veggies (a relish tray) and a large basket
of crackers, soon followed by a bowl of onion
soup/broth. As you look over the menu, you will
see that all of the offerings have a football
nickname. If you're looking for an exceptional,
fine-quality steak, order the Quarterback. It's
an extra cut, 14 oz. ribeye. Folks with a smaller
appetite, might order the Tackle, an eight ounce
filet, or the perhaps the End, a six ounce filet.
Enjoy the steak!

- Cagle Steak House
Cagle is the kind of restaurant that you just
can't help but enjoy. The newly built main building
has a nice, traditional, West Texas atmosphere
about it that makes you feel like you're at home
on the range. The "compound" décor is accented
by authentic western furniture and articles including
rocking chairs, stumps and horse ties to lean
against. Steak is in the name -- and for good
reason. Entree-of-choice: one-inch steak, served
medium. A trip to the salad bar is included with
the purchase of any steak and is served with the
dressing of your liking shortly after you order.
The Cagle salad bar includes some very tasty pinto-beans,
potato salad, coleslaw and a huge tray of campfire
cornbread. The service is great, and the owner
often walks around the dining room visiting with
friends and acquaintances If you're going, go
early. If you have to wait, enjoy the cool courtyard
and the gift shop. Important Note: Don't ask for
A-1 Sauce or the cook will "get a rope."

ALCOHOL: Alcohol is served, but
you must purchase a monthly or yearly membership
to purchase alcohol because Cagle's is not within

3 - Lujan's Mexican Food
Lujan's moved into a new location in August. Although
the location is new, the high standard set at the
previous location(s) on 34th Street and then on
Indiana Avenue will continue. The food is great,
and the service is fantastic. You'll rarely run
out of chips or salsa, and the place is always buzzing
with activity. Lujan's features some very nice TexMex
dishes. Try the Sour Cream Spinach Bacon Enchiladas
or the tantalizing grilled pork chops. The chips
are warm and the Queso is the best TexMex-style
in town.
RATING: PRICE: Inexpensive
ALCOHOL: Alcohol is served at their new
location.

- Stella's
Stella's is one of those restaurants that every town needs. There's something for everyone. You can walk in the door and order a pizza, have a cold cut sandwich or take a seat and be served a fine meal. Stella's offers a menu modeled after a typical, family-owned New York City restaurant. The pizzas are hand tossed, the cold cuts are the high-quality Boars Head brand and the daily specials --usually fish -- are unmatched in Lubbock.

5 - Orlando's Italian Restaurant (Two Locations)
Orlando's is one of Lubbock's landmark restaurants.
The owners/operators are Lubbock natives that have
been in the business for at least two generations.
They run a tight ship. The food is very good --
you just cannot beat that Grandma Parziale's Chicken
Pizza or the "Hotter-than-a-smoking-machine-gun"
Mafia Queso. The Indiana Avenue location is the
bigger of the two locations, but the Avenue Q location
is a little off the beaten path and a great place
to visit after a football game.
