A few details on Tech's upcoming trip to Midland

Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury didn’t divulge too many details when speaking about his team’s upcoming scrimmage in Midland, which will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grande Communications Stadium.

The event is free to the public.

Kingsbury said there will be about 100 plays run, “give or take 20,” but said there wasn’t a set amount of snaps determined for any particular quarterback or unit.

“We’ll just play,” he said. “We’ll play it out and see how we’re doing and go from there. I don’t have a set number.”

Takeaways continue to be a focus for the Red Raiders

Though he’s been billed as an offensive guru, Kliff Kingsbury hasn’t become too discouraged this spring when he sees his offense turn the ball over.

In his mind, that means a defense that struggled mightily to produce takeaways last season is moving in the right direction.

The Red Raiders were 118th out of 120 bowl championship subdivision teams in producing turnovers in 2012, coming up with only 11 all season.

The Red Raiders look to land a quarterback in the 2014 class soon, and they are already working to get an early start for 2015.
