Northwestern State uses “ensembles.”

The Demon starting five consists of junior guard Jalan West, freshman guard Devonte Hall, sophomore guard Tra’Von Joseph, sophomore guard Zeek Woodley and senior center Marvin Frazier.

West is an elite level point guard who is averaging 13.8 points and 7.3 assists per game.

He’s flanked on either side by shooters.

Toddrick Gotcher's thoughts on Texas Tech's football game vs. Baylor (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

Texas Tech junior guard Toddrick Gotcher has been talking a little trash this week to his father, Troy Gotcher, who played football at Baylor.

“We know Baylor’s ranked high," Toddrick said. "Hopefully Texas Tech comes out with a win though. Get Coach Kliff (Kingsbury) and Pat Mahomes to play well, so we’ll be good.”

The Red Raider football team kicks off against No. 5/6 Baylor at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Arlington. 

 

Norense Odiase named Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

Freshman center Norense Odiase has been named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week after averaging 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in a win against Missouri State and an overtime loss at LSU last week.

Odiase is the first Red Raider to win Rookie of the Week since Josh Gray on Feb. 25, 2013. 

It is the 25th time since the formation of the Big 12 that a Red Raider has been honored with either player of the week or newcomer of the week. 

He is the ninth Red Raider to earn Newcomer of the Week honors.

Texas Tech didn't have any scoring droughts in its 80-68 win over Missouri State. The Red Raiders shot a season high 45.1 percent from the field for the game.

Coach Tubby Smith's first head coaching job was in the Missouri Valley Conference at Tulsa from 1991-95. While he was there, he went 3-6 against Missouri State. The Golden Hurricanes were 79-43 under Smith with back-to-back titles in 1994 and 1995.

Texas Tech MBB to participate in 2015 Puerto Rico Tip-Off (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

Texas Tech men's basketball is slated to participate in the 2015 Puerto Rico Tip-Off on Nov. 19, 20 and 22 in San Juan, according to the press release.

The Red Raiders are joined in the field of eight by Butler, Miami, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri State, Temple and Utah.

 

Last season, Texas Tech lost nine games by less than 10 points. This year, coach Tubby Smith was hoping his team could finish off the close games. The Red Raiders had the chance Tuesday night at LSU, up 57-53 over the Tigers with 53 seconds to play.
