How the Big 12 sized up at the NBA Combine

Baylor's front court was known for its length with Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson.

At the NBA Combine on Thursday, they combined for a wingspan of 14' 5.00" Austin had the longest wingspan at 7' 4.50" while Jefferson was at 7' 0.50".

The lane is 12 feet wide on an NCAA court, 2' 5.00" shorter than Austin and Jefferson combined. The radius from the middle of the hoop to the outside of the three-point line is 20' 9".

NBA Combine (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

While no Red Raiders were invited to participate in the 2014 NBA Combine this weekend, 12 of their opponents were.

That number would be 14 but Jayhawks Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid decided not to participate, along with Jabari Parker.

Those three are considered the top prospects in this year's draft, but keep in mind that last year's No. 1 pick, Anthony Bennett, skipped the combine due to a shoulder injury.

Tuberville, Gillispie among coaches who testified in Donnan investment scheme case

Former Texas Tech coaches Tommy Tuberville and Billy Gillispie were among a group of four coaches who testified Monday about losing money in an alleged investment scheme for which former Georgia football coach Jim Donnon is on trial in federal court.

According to, Gillispie said he had a net loss of $700,000 after recovering some money through the bankrupty proceeding and an agreement with Dennis Franchione.

Tuberville said he and his wife had a combined loss, but the amount wasn't specified.

NCAA MBB Rules Committee suggests changes (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

Go back with me to February 22.

With 11 seconds remaining and Syracuse down by two to Duke, CJ Fair got the ball on the left wing and drove to the basket.

Once Fair beat his man on the perimeter, Duke's Rodney Hood slid down from his man on the left elbow to the paint and took a charge.

In my opinion, it looked like Hood was still sliding over to take position as Fair started his upward motion. But let's be real. That was a close call and had to be hard to make live.

2014 SEC/Big 12 Challenge (Krista Pirtle's Blog)

Texas Tech men's basketball will host Auburn on Dec. 3 to tip-off the 2014 SEC/Big 12 Challenge.

Last season, the Red Raiders fell to Alabama 76-65 because they couldn't contain Alabama's Trevor Releford as he scored 29 points off 5-of-7 shooting from the perimeter.

Auburn also lost its SEC/Big 12 matchup last year 99-70 to Iowa State.

The Tigers finished last season 13-16 overall and 5-12 in conference play.

Auburn also graduated its top scorer from last season Chris Denson.

Best shooting guards in the Big 12

When most people think about shooting guards, they think about athletes who are in range once they step foot in the gym.

Assasins from downtown can quickly take a game over and seal a victory for their team, but shooting guards don't just pitch a tent in the corner and wait for the ball anymore.

With the NBA showcasing that a position on the floor doesn't limit an athlete to a particular role, the NCAA is starting to play that way as well.
