The days of Texas Tech baseball being the road opponent to fill other team’s non-conference schedules appear to be over.

The Red Raiders released their 2011 schedule on Tuesday, highlighted by an 18-game home stand to begin the season and home series against Nebraska before the Cornhuskers join the Big 10 Conference and rival Texas A&M in early April.

“We feel like we have a great schedule for the upcoming season,” head coach Dan Spencer said in a release from the university. “There are a lot of good teams coming to Lubbock and we are excited about hosting three tournaments early in the season.”

Included in the schedule are 22 games against seven teams that advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2010, including weekend series against College World Series teams TCU (March 4-6) and at Oklahoma (April 1-3).

Tech will open the season Feb. 18 against Western Michigan as part of the Red Raider Classic (Feb. 18-20), followed by the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic (Feb, 24-27) with BYU and Northern Illinois. After the TCU series, Tech will host the Texas Tech Invitational with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Iowa March 11-15.

Tech then opens Big 12 play March 18-20 at Baylor. Other Big 12 road series beside Baylor and Oklahoma include defending Big 12 champion Texas (April 15-17), Kansas State (April 21-23) and Missouri (May 13-15). Big 12 home series come against Nebraska (March 25-27), Texas A&M (April 8-10), Kansas (April 29-May 1) and Oklahoma State (May 20-22) to end the season prior to the Big 12 Championships in Oklahoma City.

Tech’s longest road trip of the season comes April 12-23 with games at New Mexico (2) and Texas State (1) around the series at Texas and Kansas State.
