SHALLOWATER — Allison Maldonado and Rebekah Jones enjoyed Senior night quite a bit, clinching a share, if not an outright District 2-3A title after edging Cooper 45-43 in front of a sell-out crowd. “This is the biggest crowd we’ve ever had,” Shallowater head coach Chuck Darden said, “There was standing room only.” Darden was particularly happy with his senior posts, who helped his team make just enough plays to win against their tough district rival.

Tigers secure second seed from District 4-4A

It took Frenship the better part of three quarters to finally find its rhythm, but the Tigers did so soon enough to secure one of the top two playoff spots from District 4-4A. The Tigers hit 7 of 10 free throws in the final 1:43 of the game and holding off Monterey for the second seed for the playoffs in a 45-42 victory over the Lady Plainsmen at the Tiger Pit.

McDonough brings same energy off bench into starting role 01/31/13 - 1:48am

Plainview girls’ basketball coach Danny Wrenn would love to have the energy Meredith McDonough brings off the bench. But an early season-ending injury to Michelle Portillo forced McDonough into the starting lineup, and McDonough has been able to bring that same energy and intensity every night, and it has the Lady Bulldogs in control of the District 4-4A race with just two games remaining. “It’s so much fun and just a great experience,” the 5-foot-5 sophomore guard said. “When Michelle got hurt, I knew I needed to step up and just start scoring for her.”
