Jessica Barrera and Claudia Sanchez scored first-half goals, Franchesca Lozoya got the shutout and the Monterey girls soccer team claimed the District 2-5A championship with a 3-0 win over Lubbock High on Saturday.
Bri Alonzo had a goal and an assist in the victory, and Mercedes Perez and Alex Hernandez also had assists in the match for the Lady Plainsmen, who improve to 17-7-2 overall and 8-1-2 in district play.
Monterey now waits to continue the season in the playoffs against an opponent yet to be determined.

The Monterey boys soccer team concluded the regular season with a 0-0 draw against Lubbock High.
The Plainsmen outshot the Westerners 15-4 but could never find the back of the net.
Next up for Monterey (11-9-4, 6-3-3) is the bi-district playoff against the third-place finished in District 1-5A. The time, date and place of that match has not been determined.
