ACUFF — April Ramirez pitched a one-hitter and struck out 10 as Roosevelt beat Slaton 11-1 Tuesday in a District 3-2A softball opener.
Ramirez helped her own cause with a 2-for-3 game at the plate and scored three runs.
Brittany Peralez doubled in the fourth inning, breaking up the no-hitter.

AMARILLO — Lauren Heinrich was a one-woman show in Cooper’s rout of Amarillo.
In the circle, Heinrich (8-2) scattered seven hits and two runs over six innings with nine strikeouts. At the plate, she was 4 for 5 with three triples and five RBIs.
Cooper (11-2) had 16 hits, finishing its scoring with a five-run seventh.
The Lady Pirates will be back in action on Thursday at the Snyder Tournament beginning with a 10 a.m. game against San Angelo Lake View.

SHALLOWATER — Leanna Valenzuela went 4 for 4 and scored five runs and Ashlee Hamilton pitched a shutout as Shallowater blasted Abernathy in a non-district game.
Jordan Estrada doubled twice and drove home two runs for Shallowater (18-3), and Valenzuela also drove in two runs.
Hamilton (5-2) gave up four hits, struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter. She went the distance in a game shortened to five innings by the 10-run rule.
