To say there’s been a stark contrast in success for the Texas Tech baseball team between playing at home and on the road would be an understatement. After opening the season winning its first four games at Rip Griffin Park, the Red Raiders took a five-day jaunt through central and south Florida, and it was anything but a vacation. Tech came back with just one win in five games, ending with an 8-6 victory over Florida International after having struggled in several phases of the game.

MIAMI — Tyler Neslony’s two-run double highlighted a six-run sixth inning, and the Texas Tech baseball team salvaged a win out of its five-game Florida road trip with an 8-6 victory over Florida International on Tuesday. Junior left-hander Jonny Drozd (1-0), a transfer from Grayson County, earned the win with five solid innings in his first career Division I start. He allowed four runs on 10 hits with a pair of strikeouts in five-plus innings.

Red Raiders drop fourth straight game on Florida road trip 02/26/13 - 1:34am

Late rally falls short as Tech loses to Florida International 9-7

The Texas Tech baseball team dropped its fourth straight game on its Florida road trip, falling behind big and coming up short in a late rally for a 9-7 defeat at the hands of Florida International on Monday at FIU Stadium. The Red Raiders (4-4) led 3-2 through three after scoring single runs in the first, second and third innings. But FIU (7-1) took the lead in the fourth on a pair of RBI singles by Julius Gaines and Zach Sweety, then got a home run from T.J. Shantz and an infield single from Nathan Burns in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2.

Troy hands Texas Tech its first loss of season 02/23/13 - 1:25am

ORLANDO, Fla. — Troy used a pair of three-run innings to take control, and the Trojans’ pitching staff shut down Texas Tech after a rough start, handing the Red Raiders their first loss of the season, 10-3, in the opening game of the Wawa Weekend Classic at Jay Bergman Field, Tech took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a bases-loaded single by Devon Conley but managed just four more hits the rest of the way. The Red Raiders (4-1) loaded the bases twice in the fifth and sixth innings without getting a hit, but managed just one run total on fielder’s choice by Elliot Richoux.

Tadlock takes young charges on road to weekend tournament in Florida 02/22/13 - 1:32am

Taking a young, inexperienced team on the road for the first time, and taking them halfway across the country, there could be dozens of concerns for new Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock. But his main concern is not how his freshmen and sophomores, many of whom played a key role in last week’s 4-0 start to the season, will react on a foreign field, nor if they will be able to keep their minds on their business going to sunny, warm Florida for five days. In fact, his biggest concern isn’t really baseball-related at all.

Red Raiders show plenty of positives in opening weekend

Considering all the unknowns going into the 2013 season, you had to be somewhat impressed with the way the Texas Tech baseball team came out of the gates this weekend. A bunch of newcomers getting their first taste of Division I college baseball went out and put together four solid games against Northern Illinois, BYU and Northern Colorado, outscoring their opponents 36-2 and earning votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America Top 30 poll.

Withrow shuts down Huskies as Tech closes weekend with perfect 4-0 record 02/18/13 - 1:16am

As good as Texas Tech’s starting pitching was for the first three games of 2013, head coach Tim Tadlock may have saved his best for last this weekend. Matt Withrow, a freshman right-hander out of Odessa, tossed six shutout innings, allowing just one hit, and the Red Raiders continued to show some offensive depth in some spots in a 13-0 rout of Northern Illinois Sunday at Rip Griffin Park.
