Texas Tech senior third baseman Reid Redman is out indefinitely after suffering a broken second metatarsal in his left foot, the school announced prior to Saturday’s Big 12 Conference game against Oklahoma. Tech officials said it was unknown when Redman, a native of Midland, suffered the injury, but that he began feeling discomfort Thursday. X-rays taken prior to Saturday’s game revealed the break.

Duke von Schamann was back to his old self again Friday night, and because he was, the Red Raiders may have gotten back on track in the Big 12 Conference.

Game within the game this weekend 03/23/12 - 2:21pm

This weekend's Big 12 series between Texas Tech and Oklahoma was already going to be highly crucial since both teams started off league play at 0-3. Now, however, it might be entertaining as well. Apparently, OU coach Sunny Golloway may be taking some flack from some comments made to the Daily Oklahoman this week regarding the adjusments the Sooners are having to make with a new pitching staff. In particular, one referencing former assistant Tim Tadlock, who just happens to be on the staff now with Texas Tech.

Both the Texas Tech and Oklahoma baseball teams are in pretty precarious positions. After suffering sweeps in their Big 12 Conference openers last weekend, neither can afford another series defeat. While a league regular season title wouldn’t be out of the picture with six series remaining, the road to get there would turn pretty steep.

Oklahoma baseball coach Sunny Golloway is no stranger to having numerous new faces each season, having had 20 players drafted and signed the last two seasons. This season, however, he’s needed nametags for the guys in his own office. With three new assistant coaches joining the program since last season, it’s made for some struggles for the Sooners (13-9) in the development of chemistry and understanding of Golloway’s methods.
