TEMPE, Ariz. — Scott LeJeune had a pair of doubles and scored twice, Kevin Whitehead drove in a pair of runs with a double and a base-loaded walk, and No. 26 Texas Tech earned a big road victory on Tuesday, doubling up No. 13 Arizona State 8-4 at Packard Stadium. The Red Raiders (10-3) used a four-run seventh inning to break open a close game, and did so on only two hits, a LeJeune leadoff double and an RBI single by Brennan Moore. In between, the Red Raiders took advantage of two hit batters, a bunt single and one of three errors by the Sun Devils (8-3). That put Tech up 8-1.

HOUSTON — Trey Masek tossed four innings of three-hit relief, and No. 24 Texas Tech used a four-run sixth inning to break open a tie game for a 10-4 victory over Houston in the final game of the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park. Tim Proudfoot’s RBI double — the first of two doubles for the freshman who hit in the second spot in the order for the first time this season — gave Tech (9-3) the lead for good at 5-4. The Red Raiders would then add runs on errors by Cougar infielders and an RBI groundout by Scott LeJeune to push the lead to 8-4.

The Texas Tech baseball team came through its season-opening nine-game homestand with about as good a feeling as it could. The 8-1 record is obvious, but the internal results throughout the clubhouse are the confidence gained from seeing solid starting pitching every time out, an opportunistic offense and solid defense despite a low fielding percentage.
