Whenever Texas Tech head baseball coach Dan Spencer was asked at last year’s Big 12 Championships about his teams’ NCAA tournament chances, his answers were consistent, and not done without careful thought and a solid premise. He consistently told whoever asked, he felt his team was in, and it was based on analyzing the past history of the Big 12 where teams with similar RPIs (50), win totals and solid play toward the end of the regular season had always gotten in.

In the seventh inning, trainer Shawn Lindsey told head coach Dan Spencer he needed to put a new left fielder in the game against Western Michigan. “What do you mean he’s gone?” Spencer recalled thinking at the time. With his parents, Bill and June, in the stands, LeJeune had gone hitless in four trips to the plate. He picked up his glove, helmet and bat, and was gone.

Strong pitching lifts Tech baseball to 6-0 win over alumni 02/12/12 - 1:54am

A day where the temperature never gets far above freezing is a good day to pitch, and Texas Tech certainly took advantage of that kind of weather on Saturday. Junior transfer Shane Broyles struck out eight in 41/3 innings of work, and Tech’s offense took advantage of opportunities with solid execution for a 6-0 victory in the third annual alumni game held at the newly renovated Rip Griffin Park.

Rip Griffin Park nears completion 02/10/12 - 1:14am

When ground was broken on the renovations to Texas Tech’s baseball stadium in late June, it was promised to be completed in exactly 240 days. While there are still some minor things being done to the newly renamed Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the $5 million renovation was held on Thursday, eight days earlier than expected and more than a week from the Feb. 17 season opener.

Barnes focused on Red Raiders season, will wait to see what happens with draft 02/05/12 - 1:49am

With less than two weeks remaining before the first pitch of 2012 has been thrown, Barrett Barnes has already picked up pretty much every preseason honor there is. He’s landed on three different all-America teams and has been rated among the top 75 pro draft prospects, and that doesn’t count any preseason All-Big 12 honors from the conference which are sure to come his way. Such is the life of a player projected to be a top-three-round draft pick in June’s Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. But none of that is of concern right now to Tech’s junior center fielder.
