In the seventh inning, trainer Shawn Lindsey told head coach Dan Spencer he needed to put a new left fielder in the game against Western Michigan.
“What do you mean he’s gone?” Spencer recalled thinking at the time.
With his parents, Bill and June, in the stands, LeJeune had gone hitless in four trips to the plate. He picked up his glove, helmet and bat, and was gone.
