Tim Tadlock, consided by many the best recruiter in the Big 12 Conference and one of the best in the nation, was officially hired as the new Texas Tech baseball Associate Head Coach, the school announced Tuesday. Tadlock, 42, has spent the last six seasons as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Oklahoma and is considered one of the architects to the Sooners' 2010 team that reached the College World Series for the first time since 1995.

Despite several media outlets stating it to be a fact, Texas Tech baseball coach Dan Spencer still would not confirm Thursday reports that former Red Raider and Oklahoma assistant Tim Tadlock has been hired as the program’s new assistant coach. But it appears to be just a matter of time and making sure the paperwork is done properly. When asked about the hire, Spencer said, “I can’t (confirm it) yet. We’re in a position where we’re trying to dot the Is and cross the Ts, so I can’t yet. I’ll feel more comfortable when the powers that be tell me we’re good there.”

Thursday wasn’t the first time head coach Dan Spencer had used the words Big 12 Championship since he’s been associated with Texas Tech baseball. But it was the first time he used the words regarding his Red Raider club in terms of actually competing for one.

Petrie confirmed to the Avalanche-Journal Monday that he was let go after a meeting with head coach Dan Spencer.

Trent Petrie was fired Sunday as assistant coach of the Texas Tech baseball team. Petrie confirmed to the Avalanche-Journal Monday afternoon that he was let go over the weekend after meeting with head coach Dan Spencer. Petrie declined to comment on the specifics around his firing, referring all questions to Dan Spencer. Messages left with Spencer Monday night were not returned.

The 28-year-old former Texas Tech pitcher is arguably the biggest surprise on one of baseball's biggest surprises: the winning Pittsburgh Pirates.

PITTSBURGH — Jeff Karstens heard the chatter. Hang around the fringe as long as the Pirates right-hander has and it’s hard to ignore. Manager Clint Hurdle heard it too. He saw the reports labeling Karstens a “five and 75 guy,” meaning once he got through five innings or 75 pitches, things started to get ugly.
