Texas Tech signed nine new football players Wednesday, but the Red Raiders were reminded that nothing's official until the paperwork is signed.

For a few hours Wednesday, Tech was heartened by an oral commitment from Pierce (Calif.) College cornerback Kasseim Everett. But about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oklahoma announced Everett had signed with the Sooners.

Tech confirmed nine new signees, all before lunch, on Wednesday, which was the first day mid-term transfers could sign with their new schools. Everett announced for Tech during an early afternoon ceremony at his school, but apparently had a change of heart.

The Red Raiders did land all seven junior-college players from whom they had received oral commitments in the last week.

Wide receiver Javon Bell (6-foot, 184 pounds), offensive tackle Rashad Fortenberry (6-5, 283) and linebacker-safety Chris Payne (5-10, 190) -- teammates on a 10-2 team at Mississippi Gulf Coast Communty College -- signed early in the day, according to a Tech spokesman.

Following suit not long after were three teammates from 11-0 Riverside (Calif.) Community College: Defensive end Lee Adams (6-3, 265), outside linebacker Will Smith (6-3, 220) and wide receiver-kick returner SaDale Foster (5-8, 190). Safety Austin Stewart (6-2, 200) from Pierce (Calif.) College also signed.

Tech also announced that center Jared Kaster (6-4, 268) from Altair Rice Consolidated and cornerback Thierry Nguema (5-11, 175) from Corona (Calif.) Santiago have signed financial aid agreements to enroll at mid-term.

I hope these guys work out. Overall I see some talented players out there. Tubs was feeling the heat and had to go the JUCO route. Next year will be interesting.

3rd season

Tubbs already changing out most of the coaching staff and grabbing JUCO's...here comes the iceberg!

Tubbs

K-State has been a mess with all those juco players...

This is how you build two solid recruiting classes. Don't throw the freshman to the wolves. Let them learn from guys that have a year or two of post-high school experience so they can grow. I think he is doing the exact right thing and that it will pay off.
