Texas Tech has waited for weeks to release its 2012 football schedule, and now it will wait a while longer.
Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said the university had it in writing from the Big 12 Conference that the league schedule would be released Friday, but that plan changed in an 8 a.m. conference call Friday.
“I know it won’t impact our home and away opponents,” Hocutt said later in the day, “but it’s still a fluid situation and complicated and one that hopefully can be resolved soon.”
The Red Raiders’ presumed schedule appeared on Tech’s mobile phone application early in the day before the Big 12 hit the brakes.
The conference schedule revealed on the app showed the Red Raiders opening Big 12 play with road games at Oklahoma State and TCU and attractive home games Oct. 20 against West Virginia, Nov. 10 against Oklahoma and Dec. 1 against Texas.
According to the unofficial schedule, the Red Raiders also would have open dates on Sept. 22 — after the last non-conference game — and Oct. 13, which would be after the first two Big 12 games.
Hocutt said he couldn’t comment on any of those specifics.
He said the Big 12 had to delay the release, because “a couple of things continue to evolve regarding the league schedule.”
The competing lawsuits that West Virginia and the Big East Conference filed against each other in November have kept the Big 12 plans on hold. West Virginia sued in its attempt to leave the Big East and join the Big 12 for 2012. The Big East suit contended West Virginia needed to give 27 months notice.
The Charleston (W. Va.) Daily Mail reported Thursday the two sides had reached a conditional settlement that would send the Big East $20 million. West Virginia would pay $11 million of the settlement amount and Big 12 members would cover the rest, the Daily Mail report said, citing an unidentified source.
The agreement would free the Mountaineers to join the Big 12 on July 1, the report said.
Tech plans to release season-ticket plans shortly after the conference makes the schedule final. Hocutt said there could be some change in ticket prices from 2011.
“There may be modest (price) increases in certain sections and may be slight decreases in other sections,” he said. “It’s important to us to have an affordable product and still sell 60,454 seats every Saturday, have it priced appropriately to do that.”
Note: The following 2012 schedule appeared on Texas Tech’s mobile phone application early Friday, but the Big 12 Conference subsequently delayed the schedule’s release. The following should be considered unofficial.

Another painful season just around the corner
Not so fast my friend!
With two top 25 recruiting classes and all the returning starters and red-shirts coming in we got class baby! Last year was an asterisk as it was our worst season since 1992, but it was not expected and we were just better than those ending numbers. We know it and most of them know it. This year we will prove it. I see a 4-1 if not 5-0 start and from then i dunno know. But I think Alamo or even Cotton bowl is well within our range! Its a whole new game and we got the hosses now and the staff now! Just beat the hell out of Texas and TCU !!!
Mayberry
Andy Griffith just told Barney to calm down and be quiet. If the deal with Big East was not in fact inked, then the Big 12 and WVU lawyers, more than anyone, want Texas Tech to be patient. Barney just got excited and his gun went off. Buffoonery!
Cotton Bowl? I think West Virginia, OU, K State and UT, and certainly others, might have other ideas. They can't all go to the BCS. Our team will be as good as it can be in 2013 (w Tubs still here), so road trips to toughest opponents then will make us wish this new unofficial schedule were flipped with 2013. Or, are they gunning for 2014, 13-0???
Tech will necessarily be better, but beating any of the named teams is doubtful, and only the koolaid drunks are so certain about getting road wins v. Oklahoma State, TCU, Iowa State and against Art Briles (genuine Tech guy) and Baylor. Big 10/12 will beat each other senseless next year, but Tech is not in that top tier in 2012.
Give Tubs some time, as they told us in Dallas and Houston, we were a few plays and a few injuries away from big time/or at least 7 wins (also a few plays from losing to Nevada in Lubbock/with no one hurt). "Barney, get in the tank with Otis, you've had enough."
Something Very Good
Look at the sked. Texas Tech versus Texas has replaced a certain 100-year-old end-of-the-season rivalry. Our grandchildren, years following the exorcism of our program, will revel in the presence of the most important rivalry in Texas. It's a fact.
gonna be ugly
I love FLASH LITE'S optimism ... LITE, you do realize that starting 5-0 or 4-1 involves beating 1 or both WVU and TCU ... one team that can put 70 pts up on our defense and one that can shut down our offense. Cotton Bowl is within our reach??? LMAO ...
The first 3 games are all jokes + Kansas later in the season ... so Tubs only really has to win 2 games against teams that would be considered "competition" to get into a bad bowl game. I think we'll have a decent shot at beating Iowa State next year ... even though they kicked the crap out of us this year ... so thats potentially 5 wins ... AND ... Tubs always seems to find a way to get his team to play great on any given 1 week (like OU last year) ... so whichever week that is ... and outside shot at 6 wins. My 2012 prediction for Texas Tech is a slight chance at 6-6 ... but more than likely 5-7 ... and I wouldn't be surprised by 4-8 ... which would be our worst record in 22 seasons. I pray to God this will be Tuberville's last season in Lubbock.
Careful, Rodney
Rodney, when you publish the truth I suggest you put on a Kevlar vest and a helment. (Military) Be sure and call Kent Hance and his Band of Liars every day and thank them for the state of our revenue sports programs. As a poster here always says: "The nuclear winter continues in Lubbock."
haha ...
I've been on here plenty in the last few months talking to Hance's "sheep herd". It's always fun to sit back and wait for the hysterical responses to any comments viewed as negative to Tubs or Tx Tech football. The funny thing is ... my post isn't negative ... it's just common sense ... look at the schedule ... then look at the state of our football program ... and it's pretty easy to predict most of the games. And as far as the individuals on here that go overboard in defending Tubs and Tx Tech football ... it all come's back to one common denominator ... the TRUTH hurts. And ... the thing that sucks for the "sheep herd" right not is there is no proof or facts to back up any argument in their defense of Tubs. And NO ... "we had another top 25 recruiting class" is not a relevant argument in defense of Tubs. Recruiting class rankings mean nothing if you can't coach 'em up. It all comes down to Wins and Losses. Trending down from 11 wins in 2008 to 5 wins in 2011 is FACT. And looking at our 2012 schedule ... the trend will continue. Someone on here saying we might be in the 2012 Cotton Bowl is down right delusional.
4-8 or 8-4...maybe better?
I know this sounds ludacris at the moment, but we can easily at this time next year be staring at another losing season OR we could have a nice surprise. It's really dependant on how well our D gels together and if the personality conflicts between Neal Brown and the rest of the offense can be worked out.
If Ronnie D has learned his lessons, we'll have a decent one/two punch between him and the plethora of scat backs we have.
We may have young receivers but speed is speed and we have that at the receiver position. That SHOULD stretch the field and open up the running game more.
Good QB coming back, not great but good. Very intriguing back-up coming up. He could be a season changer. That freshmen from Abilene could be a sleeper too.
The real question is how the rest of the Big XII will be. How will Baylor be w/out RG3 and their top receiver? How will Ok-State be next year? Has UT found a QB? OU and WVU will be the top dogs, TCU will be a force just off shere tradition and a desire to prove the college world they are for real. These will be the deciding factors for Tech's season. It could be a transition time where if Tech busts their butts in the off-season and show up with a chip on their shoulder, it could be a great year. If they aren't ready, then it could be another year of embarassment. Time will tell. That's why you gotta love this game!
oh and I'm just assuming off
oh and I'm just assuming off sheer desperation our defense will at least get in the way and trip some people this coming season. But in all seriousness they should be better. This new guy should at least have the experience enough to get them tougher mentally and not fracture at the slightest mistake.
Be Worried
I don't comment much, but will do so here. Story on the back street is the coaching staff has lost the locker room. In other words, the kids aren't buying in any longer and have lost faith. This is a huge issue!!
Hope For The Future
The Allies threw the Nazi's out of Paris. The Soviet Union finally imploded. The Coalition threw Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait City--later the coalition threw him out of Baghdad and captured him and hanged him. Some day we will find Kent Hance and his Palace Guard in their underground bunker and throw them out of Lubbock. Life will resume. Perhaps in my lifetime.
Does anyone know what Facts
Does anyone know what Facts is talking about? Tech has been around since 1923, and we have been playing football since 1925. We haven't even been around for 100 years. Facts?
Red, Rodney's "Fact's," have yet to happen. So therefore they are his opinions.
80's player, how can the coaching staff lose the locker room when Tech hasn't even started spring training?
I love how most of the Leachbots, are plotting for Tech's demise. Then they say that they are true Tech fans and they want them to succeed. When in all honesty your true Tech spirit disappeared when the Cabin Boy walked the plank.
Leachbots, please disappear!!!
80 Player
I've heard the same thing about losing the locker room. It started mid-way last season and to be exact the half time speech at the OK game.
@redraiderfor life
Everybody but you knows what he is talking about. It is actually 100+.
Try researching the history of football instead of sucking up to Hance.

Whoops read it wrong, thought
Whoops read it wrong, thought he was talking about Tech playing for that long. I commend you feaco, on something actually factual . Sucking up to hance? I haven't mentioned Hance. Is that all you have?
@redraiderfor life
@redraiderfor life ... the FACTS I was talking about were regular season record trending in the wrong direction ... 2008 - 11-1 ... 2009 8-4 ... 2010 - 7-5 ...2011 5-7.
redraiderfor life ... go through the schedule and tell us who you think we can beat besides Northwestern State, Texas State, New Mexico, and Kansas ...
'the tubster' departure
I can't wait until tubby leaves TTU after consecutive successful seasons in Lubbock.
Kent Hance will tell us that 'tubbs' has been an asset and has set the course correction for many more successful season's. Of course, Rev Hance will be pontificating and like a hand dryer>>> it will just be blowing HOT AIR. If Kent Hance can't utter a few words "I ruined TTU.. I am sorry and I am stepping down".. then nothing he say's means anything.
It is coming to an end folks, and as much as Pastor Hance fights it with his minions... they keep making foolish mistakes that spotlight their disdain for the Lubbock Sport Fans. We don't follow their storyline.. we know the truth.
The Pastor Hance Regime is coming to an end. Your Tier 1 (liberal agenda) pipe dreams are coming to an end. Rick Perry won't be president.. SEN Robert Duncan won't be a senator.. Mayor Martin will not be Mayor.. now, if we could remove Randy Neugerbauer... the next to fall will be PASTOR HANCE and the BOR.
Politics at TTU will be removed because they have ruined TTU.
Go Raiders....lol
LOL.....all this arguing over a technical school? Please! You can read pretty much the same posts on Tenn Tech's page...well,not so much. I do believe they understand they are a technical school and there is nothing wrong with that. Both schools are one and the same...if ya think about it. Either way,I hope texas technical will have a better record than last year. Go Raiders! .....again lol!
conference records
Can someone shed light? Two straight losing conf records in football. How many for men's basketball? Women's basketball? Baseball? Don't know for sure, but seems like forever.
TTU's 5-7 was the deserved record last year. If you want to discuss "near-misses" at Mizzou, etc., then you need to discuss "very close wins," i.e. NEV at home and at OU.
I think TTU will again beat the 3 schools that don't count and 1 that shouldn't (KU). As for "real schools," they'll probably get a win, maybe two. 5-7 or 6-6. I'm hoping we can finally elevate the program sufficiently to actually give ISU a game this year.
Besides the teams you
Besides the teams you mentioned, Tech has a good chance of beating Baylor, Iowa State, depleated OSU. TCU & UT are a good possibility with them being at home. OU & WVU is really up in the air, and so is KSU. It is college football, and no one predicted Tech beating OU at home last year so every week can be crazy and unexpected. I think that this team will not let themselves lose more than 6 games this year. It is Tubervilles 3rd year, so I think; and that is my opinion that they will surprise a lot of the Leach faithful with winning some tough games. Nothing will really stop yall from doubting this team anyway so I am just talking to an internet binary program.
Pie in the Sky
For all of you pie in the sky dreamers that think we are going kick butt this year and go to the Cotton or some other decent bowl, keep dreaming. There is nothing wrong with dreaming and wishing and hoping. But, when it comes to actually discussing a program, you have to at least look a little bit at the facts. Under our glorious head coach we have gone from a history of winning seasons to a series of losing seasons. We have lost recruits, we have gone through assistant coaches like like they are a dime a dozen, we are having scholarship athletes transfer out, we have lost the fan base, and we have lost respect and a national presense. What, if anything, have you seen from our coaching staff that gives you such confidence? I have seen nothing but a bunch of excuses and references to other schools as to how we want to do what they are doing. That with a bunch of double talk is all we ever see. First, he says that we don't want Juco transfers, we want high school recruits that will be here and get to know the system. Then when we can't get that, he says we need experience and goes and gets alot of Juco transfers and touts how good they will be. Like everything, he constantly is changing his tune and says whatever pops into his mind. His coaching seems to be taking the same route. Keep up the dreaming and maybe we'll get lucky. But most likely we'll once again be 5-7 or 6-6 if we are lucky. If you have some inside information about why we will be so good this year, other than just speculation based on recruits, please let us in on it.
National presence? Now thats
National presence? Now thats a joke. ..but, at least some are kinda getting it.
@SJ
We were Nationally relevant 1 year (2008) and we got the brains beat out of us shortly afterward.
We have had players leave. Yes, but that happens with any coaching transition. Some player leave when a new coach comes in, what else would you expect?
We have signed back to back top 25 recruiting classes. Something that has not been done ever at Tech since recruiting classes have started getting ranked.
The Big 12 in 2012 will be the tightest race since the inception of the conference. There really is no clear number 1. The difference between 5th place and 1st will be a short number of points.
Coach Tuberville does not want to recruit JUCO players heavily. But we had no choice on the defensive side of the football. We have very little depth nor do we have many senior lettermen playing Defense. Mackey, Davis are the only two seniors. Osunde is another but he is a walk-on so he does not count towards the scholarship limit.
Notice on Offense we only signed 2 JUCO players which is more what he would like to do. But we have depth there.
Also I wanted to make a quick
Also I wanted to make a quick observation of Rodney's trend. Leach was here in 2008 11-1, and he was also here in 2009 8-4. Don't get me wrong but didn't the record start to trend in the wrong direction with Leach?
Pie in the Sky
Still nobody has answered my question about why we are going to be so good other than pure speculation based on recruits. Tuberville has not shown me anything to hang my hat on. Can anyone give me some answers based on anything other than pure hopes and speculation? I sure haven't seen any coaching genius coming through.
@SJ
Recruiting is not hopes and speculation. Recruiting, Facilities, and Money are the life blood to athletic programs.
You have to understand what happened to us last year in order to understand why we are excited about 2012. It also will explain why we took so many JUCO defensive players. We had no defensive depth what so ever. On the D-line we had 1 true freshman, 1 red shirt freshman, 3 soph, 1 juco junior, 1 senior. At LB we had 2 true freshman, 2 soph's as our 4 man rotation. At DB we had 1 Soph and 1 Junior starting at safety. At corner by the end of the year we had 2 walk on's playing because we had no depth.
If you count more than 3/4 of the guys playing on D were underclassmen. That is very poor. The reason for optimism is they grow up and gain experience. Plus the influx of JUCO players add immediate depth that you can not get from high school. We will actually have a 2 deep with scholarship players at every position this year.
Like I have said before Coach T does not want to recruit JUCO's but he had to this year for depth. If you are concerned with what this years JUCO recruiting will do to us in the future dont be. All he did was replace a junior and senior class that is non existent anyway.
@Red Raider for Life
Sure Red Raider for Life ... you can put that 8-4 season on Leach. Coming off winning a share of the Big 12 South title in 2008 ... slipping back to 8-4 in 2009 ... but with 16 returning starters for 2010 and we were set up for another good shot at the Big 12 South Championship again.
Then they brought Tubs in to "fix" the program. LMAO ... 2010 ended up being 7-5 ........ 2011 - 5-7
We're so far away from 8-4 right now that 8-4 sounds like a dream season. SO ...yes Red Raider for Life ... you have my permission to "blame" that 8-4 season on Mike Leach.
I would agree that we have a good chance of beating Iowa State (even though they humiliated us last year). I disagree with you that we have a "good chance" of beating Baylor and OSU and a "good possibility" of beating TCU and Texas. I would also disagree with OU, WVU, and KSU being "up in the air". The reason why??? We will be horribly out coached in almost every one of those match ups. Can we miraculously rise up on one random week and beat one of those teams??? Yes. We will more than likely win one game out of Baylor, OSU, TCU, Texas, OU, WVU, KSU.
Up in the Air
The whole entire Big 12 is up in the air this year. There is not a true front runner in the whole league. You can say what you want about the coaching. But for the "up in the air" statement it is true.
The top of the Big 12
may be "up in the air", but we're not evenly remotely in that conversation.
