Middle Tennessee hires former Tech assistant

Posted: February 23, 2012 - 12:50am

Former Texas Tech offensive line coach Matt Moore has joined the staff at Middle Tennessee State, the school announced Tuesday. A recap of football staff hires on MTSU's web site said Moore will coach offensive tackles and tight ends and serve as running-game coordinator.

Moore was the Tech offensive line coach for the last five years before he was released after the 2011 season.

One twist: He goes from the Red Raiders to the Blue Raiders.

In the announcement, Blue Raiders coach Rick Stockstill said, "Having played for Mike Leach and coaching for him at Texas Tech, Matt has a great understanding of the Red Raider offense which is very similar to what we run at Middle Tennessee. He is a tremendous teacher and has the energy on the field that will develop our young tackles."

Middle Tennessee went 2-10 last season and 1-7 in the Sun Belt Conference.

Dear Mr. Tuberville:

Here's some free information:

Wide splits in the offensive line, as coached by Matt Moore, are hard to coach against. You only see it once a season. No way to properly prepare.

Matt Moore's group won a lot of games before you showed up. (20 wins the two previous seasons.)

Look and see how many offensive lineman Matt Moore sent into pro ball. Guess he was just lucky.

The Great Red Raider Nation is happy for Matt Moore. He got away from Hance, Tuberville, Scovell, White, Sowell, Anders, Turner, and Grigg. The rest of us are sentenced to hard labor.

Look everyone, Red is a football genius. All you have to do is have wide splits to win games. Its amazing that Red is the only person that knows this and football minds like Lombardi, Landry, Knoll, Walsh never figured it out. You're a freaking genius Red. Wide splits and 12-0 and trip to the BCS title on the way. Thanks for the insight Red!

You nailed it darth. He is so

You nailed it darth. Red is so on an island with nothing in sight. Every post is the same. Hey red, if matt Moore is as great as you say they why didn't leach hire him? Maybe one of your negative clones can answer for you. Let's think about that...wide splits = middle Tennessee or NFL .... Yeah right red, whatever. Typical you make zero sense.

Since MTSU is in my back yard, I am glad to have Coach Moore. As you can see, we had a rough season last year. If he brings those wide splits with him then we should go 12-0. Who would have thunk it would be that simple. You my friend are a genius.

@red

My advice when the truth is spoken around here is "Put on your Kevlar vest and your hard hat."

The wide splits in the offensive line as previously practiced around here were very definitely hard to prepare for. Red is right. When you only see it once a year there is simply not enough time to get ready.

And it is true. For a long time Tech had a large number of high quality offensive lineman that allowed the drag patterns to work. In fact, we would drag you to death.

Red, you said nothing that is incorrect. But if you don't practice cheerleading on behalf of the Scalawags currently in power, you get blasted around here. GO TECH.

LOL at Wide Splits

Leach taught Moore his "wide splits" philosophy. His job was to communicate with his position players that philosophy and teach the fundamentals of playing on the O-Line.

I am sure at MTSU he will not be teaching "wide splits" because Buster Faulkner is the OC there. He runs the spread but a much more conventional one, 60/40 pass/run.
