Texas Tech offensive coordinator Neal Brown had an interview with Massachusetts, his alma mater, about its head coaching job this week, Tech coach Tommy Tuberville said Thursday. Tuberville said UMass officials asked for and received permission to talk to Brown and then did a preliminary interview. Tuberville said he did not know further details. Brown has been on the road recruiting, and Tuberville said he and Brown haven’t spoken since the interview.

If Joel Filani could give Washington State players a heads-up about what to expect from his old mentor, Mike Leach, the former Texas Tech receiver would say this: “Never a dull moment, you know?” Filani said. “It’s always interesting, so it’s never a dull moment.” Former Tech tackle Rex Richards offered this for Cougars fans: “Expect the unexpected.”

Texas Tech backup quarterback Jacob Karam said Wednesday that he will transfer at the end of the semester. Karam, a redshirt sophomore, appeared in five games during the 2011 season as Seth Doege’s backup. He was 9-of-17 passing for 104 yards and two touchdowns. He tossed a 43-yard touchdown to Darrin Moore on Saturday in Tech’s finale against Baylor.

Quarterbacks - C: Seth Doege completed 41 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns.He also threw a pair of costly interceptions in the second half. Backup quarterback Jacob Karam tossed a 43-yard TD to Darrin Moore on a trick play. Running Backs - D: Kenny Williams carried nine times for 41 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also fumbled once. Aaron Crawford, playing with a high ankle sprain, gained nine yards on six carries. Tech averaged 2.7 yards per carry.
