After being academically ineligible and suffering a major injury, the senior wants to finish his final season with a bowl game
When he tore his left Achilles tendon in February, Texas Tech senior Chris Payne didn’t think his career was over. Instead, he thought about when he’d be able to return.
The linebacker made his season debut last Saturday against Kansas State.
His appearance on special teams came after a lengthy rehabilitation process that Tech coaches thought may keep him out until December. Recovery time is normally about 10 months.
“He’s actually looked really well,” Tech interim defensive coordinator Mike Smith said. “He’s moving great. You talk about a great story.”
