Big 12 in the NBA draft - by the numbers

Over the past two years, Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith has coached against eight of the top prospects in this year’s NBA Draft.

“There are a number of guys that we played and, unfortunately, most of them beat us,” Smith said. “Because of that, we have a good understanding of what it takes and the type of player who makes it.”

17 — Out of 18 seasons the Big 12 has had at least one first-round draft pick, assuming the league has a first-round pick this year. Hello, Andrew Wiggins.

14 — Out of 18 seasons the Big 12 has had at least one athlete among the top-10 overall selections, assuming that happens. Again, hello Andrew Wiggins.

30 — Number of Big 12 players who have been drafted since 2010

91 — Number of Big 12 players selected since the first season in 1996-97

44 — Number of Big 12 draft picks over the last six years, which leads all conferences
